WHAT WE’RE EATING
This is kind of silly but J recently brought home these pickled carrots and jalapenos from Safeway. I think he thought it would be a fun way to jazz up steaks and stuff and they looked like the pickled vegetables you get from Mexican hole-in-the-wall taquerias (you know the AUTHENTIC ones that taste soooo freakin good?). Anyway, these are not exactly the same as those but they’re good! The carrots have a really satisfying crunch to them and they’re not as spicy as the ones from Mexican eateries so definitely more manageable for people who can’t handle spice (although I am the opposite of one of those people lol).
WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT
We celebrated D turning 7 earlier this month and as I was getting ready to post about his birthday, I was looking through old pictures from his birthdays in years past and these pictures of his 2nd birthday just SLAYED me. I forgot how CHUBBY HE WAS. And omg, look how little E was back then too … babies don’t keep 😭 Look at how SUS he’s looking at his cake in the last picture hahahah!
WHAT I’M LOVING
Ever since Kylo got back from his B&T last week, we’ve been having the BEST time continuing to build on his training foundation. Working with him is actually fun not stressful because both I know how to manage him and he knows what to expect from us. It’s been great!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO
A lot of this …
Playing with random household items like laundry baskets. They were pretending it was a boat and taking turns pushing each other around. A was a very demanding passenger and wouldn’t let D stop even though he clearly lost interest after awhile.
Also, this is random but I went to Trader Joes for my weekly grocery shopping on Monday and YO… WHAT THE HECK IS UP WITH THIS:
NO GARLIC SPREAD DIP!? Who on earth came and cleared out the entire section of garlic spread dip here!?
WHAT I’M DREADING
As of right now I can’t really think of anything that I’m dreading … honestly, there isn’t too much going on good or bad – we’re all still just at home haha.
WHAT I’M WORKING ON
Well … it’s still definitely in the brainstorming/planning stages but a Sophia K Says YouTube channel is coming soon! I mentioned this in my New Years Goals post but I’m still not really sure what the niche/target audience of my YouTube channel will be but I know that it’s going to have mommy content on it for sure. Some other potential video ideas are vlogs, style/outfit looks, and of course .. storytimes : ) IYKYK.
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT
Well, this week our California county announced the lifting of the latest shelter-in-place order that was put in effect at the beginning of December. That means hair salons and outdoor dining can reopen! (Along with a bunch of other stuff but the ones that have impacted me the most are hair salons and outdoor dining… my poor brassy highlights!)
WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING
If you follow my podcast then you’ll know that Jensine & I are rereading the entire A Court of Thorns & Roses series and will be recapping it on our latest episode of Pen & Page Gals (coming out end of week). The series is SO GOOD YOU GUYS. SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. It wasn’t even my first time reading and I still loved every page of every book in the series.
As far as what I’m watching … If you follow me on IG (@sophiaksays) you’ll also know that I recently finished watching the entire Bridgerton series which was amaze-balls. Even though the time period, context, setting, etc is VERY different from the A Court of Thorns & Roses books series, there are elements of both that are very similar as well: a strong female protagonist, love story, etc etc.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO
I have a subscription to Apple Music and there’s this playlist on there called “Hip-Hop/R&B Throwback” that I’ve been playing whenever I’m working and it is so fun!! Tons of music that remind me of when I was in high school.
WHAT I’M WEARING
This is sort of (but not) embarrassing to admit but I am never not wearing my Comfy when I’m at home … I literally live in it, guys. Maybe this will change once the seasons switch to warmer weather but with it being winter and my house running on the colder side, this thing has been a gamechanger. I’m wearing it right now … it’s absolutely not flattering in the worst way possible. Do I care? No.
WHAT IM DOING THIS WEEKEND
The other day J looked at me and declared that we’re having an at-home movie date night this weekend and I need to block it off on my calendar (because I have so many places to be other than home??? LOL). I guess there’s a movie called “The Little Things” that’s releasing on HBOMax this weekend that he really wants to see. I have no idea what this movie is about but I know that it stars Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto so at the very least the cast is very talented. I typically trust Hubby’s movie & show recommendations so fingers crossed this film is worth the hype!
WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH
HOHOHO! If you’ve read or watched any of the books/movies from the To All The Boys franchise, then you’ll know that the last movie (based off the third book) is set to release next month! I’ll be honest … IMO the books are WAY better than the movies. I’m all for corny, cheesy love stories but the acting in the first movie just turned me off and I also think the casting could have been better. The second movie redeemed the first for me though and I’m still looking forward to seeing how the last movie turns out since I am such a fan of the books themselves!
WHAT ELSE IS NEW
So I aggravated the rotator cuff in my left shoulder last month and I still don’t have full mobility of it 🙁 It’s sort of dampened my workout efforts because I can’t do a lot things (like pushups) without it causing me some pain and my PT told me to take it easy. She also told me I should be rolling out the muscle to loosen it up but I’m not following that advice very consistently, am I? HAHA. I love how I religiously follow her recommendation to “take it easy” but not the other half about how to actually rehabilitate the strain.
Another new thing with me is that I’ve committed to waking up at 5am (okay, 520am to be exact) again. Before the pandemic, waking up at 520am was my given start-time to the day because it was the perfect amount of time for me to get up, get ready, and get to my 6am Bar Method workout class. In the last (almost) year of being at home and various stages of being quarantined, I obviously haven’t had any place to get to by 6am and haven’t been waking up early at all. I think I’m really a morning person at heart … I miss the quiet hours to myself and feeling like I’ve had so much of a headstart to my day. I might not have a workout class to head out to but I have so much other work (this blog, YouTube, Bible reading, etc) that I could get started on. IN FACT … I am writing this exact blog post before 7 am so .. there you go. If you want to become a morning person and want some accountability, LMK and I’ll text you in the mornings to make sure you woke up 😉

I also am happier if I wake up early and have some time to myself before everyone else gets going. I just feel so rushed otherwise. Do you wake up early on weekends too? I let myself sleep then. And I spend most of my time at home wrapped up in a blanket that looks a lot like your cozy! Hahaha!!!

I’m the same as you – let myself sleep in on weekends! The bonus of waking up early Mon-Fri is I can sleep until 7-8 on the weekend and it’ll feel like I slept in but really it’s not that late in the morning! 🙌🏻
