Sigh, you’ve seen this motto – “New Year, New Me” all over social media ever since we rang in 2020, right? I have to confess, I feel this desire strongly right now. New Year, New Me; New Decade, New Me. I wish you could see the number of drafted posts that I have in this blog queue – half finished thoughts or scattered entries just filled with pictures that never got posted. But it’s a new year and I’m turning over a new leaf … I am RESOLVED to resurrect my blog this year!
I thought a fun new type of post to start this year would be a monthly “What I’m Planning To Read” or “What To Read” this month kind of post. If you don’t already know, I started a podcast for book-lovers with one of my favorite people. It’s called Pen & Page Gals and you can find it on iTunes – but since we pretty much will be discussing the books we’ve read throughout the year regularly on the podcast (as well as some other fun mom/girl talk sprinkled in) I thought giving a little sneak peek on my blog as to what titles will be on my reading list in the near future would be good.
So here goes!
Little Women – Louisa May Alcott
So, if you follow me on IG (@sophiaksays), you’ll know that Little Women was technically on my December/Christmas reading list. I did read a lot that month but unfortunately, Little Women did not make it into the group of books I actually read LOL. So onto January it is!
The Book of Life – Deborah Harkness
This is the last of a trilogy; I’ve already read the first two and have been holding onto book 3 for awhile but have been distracted by other reads. To be honest, at this point I’m sort of over it with this series because it’s been so long since I read the first two books but I AM NOT A QUITTER so this last installment of the trilogy is on my list for this month.
Tell Me Three Things – Julie Buxbaum
If you listened to our latest podcast episode, you’ll know that this book was highly recommended by my podcast cohost, J. She made it sound really easy and sweet, which I think I’ll probably need after going through The Book of Life so this is next on my list.
The Cruel Prince Trilogy – Holly Black
Another trilogy here … I was gifted book 3 of this trilogy by, again, my podcast cohost but I hadn’t read the first two books of the series so I checked them out from the library and hope to get through them all this month as well.
The Assassin’s Blade – Sarah J. Maas
And last … Sarah J. Maas wrote one of my favorite series that I read in 2019 (The Court of Thorns & Roses series) but she’s actually really renowned in the YA world for writing the Throne of Glass series. My podcast cohost and I have endeavored to read the entire series for the year of 2020 (apparently there are a lot of titles and this series is a doozy, but I am COMMITTED LOL) so I have the first of the series – really just a series of “pre” novellas to whet the appetite – rounding out my list this month.
If you want to hear more about what I think about these books AFTER reading them, make sure to check out our podcast and follow our podcast IG @penandpagegals for all the latest updates!
