Hey guys, Happy Monday! Wow, so if you’re any sort of sports fan at ALL, or you don’t live under a rock, you’ll know that basketball legend, Kobe Bryant, was killed over the weekend along with his 13-year old daughter and several other people in a fatal helicopter crash. Even though I’m not a sports head by any means, Kobe was a huge hero of my husbands. Hubby is a die hard Lakers fan and Kobe was definitely his favorite player – hands down. So many of my early memories in dating Hubby and even early in our marriage include Laker games (both on TV and live) and Kobe Bryant. When I was in the hospital pushing out our first baby, Hubby got in trouble because he was watching the playoff game with Kobe on the hospital TV instead of watching me bring forth his progeny to the world (hah). A few years ago, I was able to surprise Hubby and his brother with tickets to go watch Kobe in his final game at Staples Center and to this day, it’s probably the biggest surprise I’ve ever been able to give him. This whole weekend (even before Sunday), as I was taking pictures and trying to document for this post today … the vibe was just weird. I don’t necessarily believe in karma or juju or whatever, but all I can say is that the weekend was off from the very beginning. It wasn’t a bad weekend, but it also wasn’t super amazing and smooth. You’ll see it in my Top 10 that I outline below – good & fun things happen but always with a weird twist or a weird thing happening. And then finding out on Sunday morning right after church that one of basketball’s greats had perished was super sobering and put Hubby in a funky mood for the rest of the day, which just solidified the fact that this past weekend was so odd. So … Weekend Top 10, yes – but was a weird weekend overall. RIP Kobe & Gigi.
ONE
I’ve been loving the Frozen 2 soundtrack ever since we stopped listening to Christmas music last month. My kids love it too, of course, but I find that I choose to listen to this even when the kids aren’t around. The music is SO GOOD!
TWO
My weekend started off with some quiet “me time”. I’ve been working really hard on the #75Hard challenge and Hubby asked me if I wanted Sat morning to spend some time alone doing things I wanted to do. I said yes, I’d gladly do that! So I started off Saturday with a Bar Method class and then a walk on the trail by our house. I love Bar Method and have been going for 8 years so I know most of the instructors. On Sat tho, the instructor was getting on my nerves! >< She kept calling me SOPHIE, which is one of my biggest pet peeves, even though she knows I’m Sophia and has definitely correctly called me Sophia in the past. I was so annoyed because she wouldn’t stop, that I left the class early which rarely happens for me.

Right after my walk, I had booked a 2-hour Thai massage at my favorite place. I don’t know if it’s from all the exercising but my back has definitely been feeling tight so I was looking forward to this time to get all the knots out. Except … my masseuse just gave me a one-hour massage – like, she didn’t realize I’d booked a 2 hour. She left after one hour, said ‘thank you, bye!’ … I realized it had only been 60 minutes so I just sat there and waited and 5 minutes later she came rushing back apologizing, and … then basically just gave me another 1-hour massage to make it 2 hours total. If you’ve ever had a massage, you know that two 1-hour massages back to back are not the same as one continuous 2-hour massage. So while I was relaxed anyway from the service, it wasn’t really what I’d paid for.

So, Saturday night Hubby and I had a fun date night planned. We were going to hit up one of our favorite Japanese restaurants for dinner and then watch Bad Boys For Life at the theater. We’ve been going to this restaurant for years and it used to be in this run down little plaza, like a hidden gem that only people who KNEW, knew about. They’d open their doors right at 5pm and if you didn’t get there within the first 10 minutes, you could forget about getting a table. We knew the drill, but the thing was this restaurant had relocated into a swankier location a few years back and we hadn’t been to the new place. I guess it had been so long that they’d also changed their hours to just be open all day (vs taking an afternoon break and reopening at 5pm) so when we got there at 5:10, the wait was already close to an hour and a half. We (I) was so bummed. Hubby and I got on the waitlist but immediately started making plans to eat somewhere else because, c’mon – we didn’t have 80 minutes to wait for a table. THANKFULLY though we were actually able to be seated at the bar within 20 minutes and got to eat there after all.

This is so random but in the bathroom at this restaurant, they have this elbow lever so that you can open the door without touching anything gross after you’ve washed your hands. WUUUUUT, this is such a genius idea it HAD to make it to my top 10!
SIX
We headed to our movie after dinner and were so tickled to bump into our friends the Y’s! It was totally unplanned and they were even in the seats next to us! It felt like an accidental double date 😀

On Sunday, we started the day off with church as a family, like we normally do. Our pastor is doing through the book of Exodus right now. Over the past several years, I’ve really developed a love for the OT so I’m excited to be going through this book for the foreseeable future. The sermon this past Sunday was SO GOOD.

When it works out with our schedule, we usually go grocery shopping after church and then eat lunch as a family (or with friends). If you’re local to me or to church, I NEED TO LET YOU KNOW. Whole Foods markets carry Blue Jay 귤 (satsumas) now. They’re the BEST fruit ever, if you haven’t tried, then try. If you have tried, then YOU KNOW.

Later on Sunday, my podcast cohost J came over so that we could record this month’s episode (up right now on iTunes! we’re working on getting it up on Spotify too – peek a listen if you want!). After some trial & error, we discovered that recording in my tiny master closet actually gives superb audio hahaha so we’ve been doing that for the past few episodes.
TEN
And last .. but not least favorite from this weekend. I binge watched all 6 episodes of the docu-series Cheer on Netflix. If you haven’t watched this, you need to watch it! It’s only 6 episodes so it’s not like you’re diving into this crazy overwhelming series. After watching it, you’re going to want your own personal Jerry to mat talk you through your days. I know I want one for today (ugh, Mondays).
Have a great week, friends!
