We kicked off the weekend with THIS BEAUTIFUL CHEESE PLATE 🤩 My in-laws were in town for the weekend and were coming over for dinner on Friday night so I wanted to make a special little snacking plate for them to graze before dinner was ready. Believe it or not, this is actually a pared down version of what I’d normally make for my cheese plates! Also, in honor of my in-laws coming I decide to harvest my FIRST VEGETABLES from my garden! My friend told me that if I just harvest the big, outer leaves, my lettuce will continue to grow before I have to harvest the entire thing so that’s what I did. It went perfectly with the KBBQ we prepared for dinner and the lettuce was fresh and sweet! YUUURRRRM.
Saturday morning, D had a big swim meet so my husband went with E and his parents to set D up and cheer him on. A has a dance class on Saturday mornings that interfered with the meet so she and I stayed back and had a quiet morning together. I love how cuddly she is! I think physical touch is definitely her love language 🙂
Dance class and the swim meet fortuitously ended at the same time so we were able to meet up with the rest of the family for lunch. We try to make it down to Socal where my in-laws live twice a year but they rarely come up here (I think the last time was maybe 2017 or 2018) so it was a special treat to have them around this weekend. They’re also super non-fussy, non-demanding (as much as Korean in-laws can be, I mean they have their moments too LOL) so even though we always extend an offer to host them at my house, they always opt to stay at a local hotel. It makes it more enjoyable for everyone all around I think 😉 I’m more relaxed since they’re not staying with me and I think they appreciate the quiet time/downtime in between when they’re with us.
After lunch, we parted ways for a little afternoon siesta. A took a nap, E relaxed in her room, and the Sophisu boys played video games together. And when I say the Sophisu boys …I mean ALL the Sophisu boys, canine and human 😂
Then at dinner time, we went to a birthday party for a very special 6-year old. M2, eemo can’t believe you’re SIX 😭 My in-laws were still in town so J took his parents out to dinner/had 1:1 time with them while I went to the birthday party with our kids. It was hot but they had SO MUCH FUN.
Okay, this didn’t happen this weekend but A was asking to look at her baby pictures so I was scrolling through my iPhone and I found this adorable picture from 4 years ago. A was a newborn and LOOK AT TODDLER D!! He was only 3 years old here. He’s been smitten with his baby sister since Day 1 though.
Sunday morning my in-laws were driving back home so we met up with them for breakfast before church. But first! Coffee 🙂 I looooove my iced coffee! Please take note on the ratio of ice to coffee … this is my ideal ratio LOL.
Breakfast with the grandparents before they hit the road. I guess they had promised a trip to Target to my kids (I missed this somehow but apparently???) to buy toys and presents but we ran out of time so they gave each of the kids some cash and told us to take them ourselves. Le sigh. I love that they spoil my kids but also … my kids are so spoiled -______-
But we are parents of our word! So after church we stopped at Target and they shopped their little hearts out.
Then we came home and had a chillllll Sunday afternoon. These are my favorite Sunday afternoons – slow and lazy with nothing to do. A picked out this wooden treasure chest at Target and wanted to paint it so we used paint pens in the backyard to doodle on the box.
And we spent the rest of the day playing with our new toys and watching basketball on TV. It was a weekend filled with equal parts socializing with our favorite people, both family & friends, and relaxing at home just the 5 of us. Perfection! Monday, here we come!
