We had a super busy weekend but it was busy for the best reasons – we were celebrating our soon to be 4-year-old! Saturday was a little backyard play date/party that I hosted for A’s preschool class since they are already their own little cohort at school. After her party, we headed over to the park to celebrate a friend’s dohl for her son but I accidentally left my phone at home so I have no pictures from that time. Sunday was church and a lot of relaxing/recharging from the craziness of Saturday but before I spoil it all … let’s just jump into the pictures from our weekend, shall we?
First up for this weekend’s top 10 …. look at this rainbow balloon arch THAT I MADE BY MYSELF GUYS. Ok, I used a DIY kit from meri meri (I don’t see the exact kit on their website anymore but they have tons of similar ones). So I had all the materials already together buuut I did assemble the whole thing BY MYSELF. I’m pretty proud of myself considering that it’s the very first one I’ve ever done and I don’t consider myself to be a super crafty person. I even bought a balloon pump to do this .. and when I say that I did it BY MYSELF, I truly mean BY MYSELF. I had zero help from any husbands or children.
I had a loose rainbow/cloud theme going on for her birthday … other than putting together the balloon arch, this party was pretty last minute hahah. I just bought a bunch of party supplies and snacks and called it a day. I have a funny story – we have a bounce house that my in-laws sent our kids last year when COVID first hit so I said on the invitation to A’s class that we’d have a jumpy house and the kids could just hang out in the front lawn together (because we have an unfenced pool in the back and I wasn’t sure I wanted a bunch of 3 & 4 year olds near it). Well… the morning of the party, about 30 minutes before everyone was scheduled to arrive, J & I went to pull out the jump house and it was COVERED, I mean covered, in black mold E V E R Y W H E R E. It was not pretty and not salvageable … and I was kind of panicking because I was about to have 10 preschoolers at my house expecting a jump house. I called two different bounce house companies in a panic to see if anyone could come save me but alas, nobody could. So … we moved it to the backyard and let everyone go loose on the trampoline instead. The kids actually had so much fun running around the back and nobody fell in the pool so all around it was a win.
It was super windy so A’s birthday candles kept blowing out before she could get to it but still, all I see when I close my eyes and think of this day is her huge grin when everyone was singing happy birthday to her. I had a bigger unicorn cake that I served to the guests (that I unfortunately do not have a picture of) but I had her blow out her candles on this smaller cupcake because … spit… and COVID.
The party itself lasted about two hours and after everyone went home we opened up all of A’s gifts and had some more cake. I don’t know why but J thought it would be appropriate to smash the cupcake into his almost 4-year old’s face … she was a little amused at first and then got upset because she got cupcake up her nose. LOL.
My sweet maknae! She had fun 🙂 That’s all that matters. In her party favors, I included these customized rainbow cookies with her name on them. I got them from Etsy and they tasted as good as they look!
After the party, I wanted so bad to knock out and take a nap but instead we loaded up all the kids and headed over to another friend’s dohl. Thankfully that party was way more chill (probably because I wasn’t the host heh) and we got to hang out with friends/our kids got to run around and get their sugar wiggles out. I left my phone accidentally at home so I don’t have any pictures … but what I DO have a picture of is the cardio that I did once we got home at the end of the day. Trust me, I was exhausted and a workout is the last thing I wanted or needed but I am in the middle of doing this 21 day cardio challenge (with myself … nobody else is in this except for me …) and I didn’t want to let myself down. I was so happy thought because after a week or so of consistent cardio, I can already see an improvement in my endurance! I hit a new milestone with my SoulCycle beat match!
I passed out pretttty hard after the whole day of social interactions and the extra workout at the end. Sunday morning I was on the struggle bus to get up but get up I did and we all got ready and headed to church. It’s so nice that church is open again, even if it still doesn’t look quite like it did pre-COVID.
After church, we did our usual post-church lunch as a family and GUYS!!!! INDOOR DINING!! I’m pretty sure this is the first time the 5 of us have sat INSIDE at a restaurant for a meal since the pandemic hit. It was a moment to remember 🙂 Last year, when everything was shutting down, that was the one thing that D was most sad about (other than our canceled spring break trip to Hawaii). He said he missed eating out at restaurants the most.
LOOK HOW HAPPY HE IS hahahahaha. Cutie.
We all got ice cream after too 🙂
Once we got home from church & lunch/ice cream we ALL passed out hard (… well maybe except for J, I think he went and worked a bit poor guy). I think I would have spent the rest of the day bumming out in my Comfy at home but we rounded up the kids one more time and made a quick trip over to the elementary school because today a new hybrid schedule is starting and for the first time since last year, my kids will be at their physical school location EVERY DAY Mon-Fri. All the praise hands! I just wanted to make sure they knew where to walk and how drop-off/pick up would look. You can see the school already taped off X marks where every kid will be standing at the end of the day while they wait for pick up.
After that, though, I really did get cozy at home and I spent the rest of the weekend finishing up Finlay Donovan is Killing It. Guys … the book was REALLY good 😉 That’s all I’ll say.
That was our weekend! I’ve said it before but April is the busiest month for our family and we’re right in the thick of it right now. I’m surviving with lots of caffeine 😀
