This weekend started off on a jarring note … we’re in the middle of redoing our backyard and part of that project includes paving work. There was a miscommunication/misunderstanding on my husband’s part and he assumed that the pavers would not be working on Saturday and parked our car in our driveway (which we’ve been leaving clear for the workers to park their trucks/materials). Well 8 am Saturday and I see on our Ring camera that someone is at our front door … SURPRISE SHAWTY! Guess who’s here to work on the backyard and needs our SUV moved out of the way? 🤦🏻♀️
To be frank, I was already awake when the paver people came to our house at 8am. I “slept in” and woke up at 730am feeling SUPER chipper and awake. It was a little embarrassing that I was in my jammies and comfy but … when am I not in my jammies and comfy? HMMM?
On weekends, we have bacon for breakfast … and I’ve been LOVVVINNGGGG my Magic Spoon cereal! Cinnamon is my favorite flavor they offer (from the ones I’ve tried which are Frosted, Cinnamon, and Cocoa). They’re all good but I have a soft spot for cinnamon cereals.
I don’t know where this balloon came from but my girls were having so much fun tossing it back and forth in the hallway. I remember making up a “lava” game with my younger brother when we were kids with a balloon and sticks. We hit the balloon back and forth like a really slow game of badminton and had to make sure the balloon didn’t hit the lava (the ground)! Good times, good times. A, if you’re reading this – I miss you!
Sunday was Hubby’s birthday so Saturday my kids spent time making a sign/banner that said “Happy Bday Daddy”. I drew out the letters but they colored & cut the letters on their own! All three of them participated, you’ll see the finished product later on in this post.
I painted my nails with one of Olive & June’s newest spring shades – Lava. OH MY, I think I’m in love! It’s a super vibrant orangey-red-coral that I’m obsessed with. Gives me OPI Cajun Shrimp vibes for SUREEEE ✨✨
Saturday afternoon/night we went to a friend’s house and played/had dinner. I don’t have ANY pictures from this time. Nada. Not a single one. But I did sneak these photos on the way back home after dinner. A knocked out so hard in the car, she didn’t even wake up once we got home. I didn’t have the heart to force her to wash up/brush her teeth, so I just put pajamas on her whilst she was limp and sleeping and put her into bed. I think it’s literally the first time I’ve ever done that with any of my three kids. Usually they’ll wake up once we get home or once they feel us take them out of the car so we can brush their teeth at the minimum. This girl was PASSED OUT.
Sunday was J’s birthday! This poor man has been absolutely slammed at work for all of February and has not been sleeping well at ALL so I gave him the best gift that I could offer – the gift of rest. I told him to please not come out of the room and just SLEEP as much as he could on Sunday and this man slept until 11 am! 😱 He really needed it though; he’s been pulling weeks of late nighters at work, I’m talking working until 2am type of days. Every day. For weeks. I’m so glad he got to rest this weekend! You can kind of see it in the first pic below but I also gifted him an Ember coffee tumbler. He loves coffee but never seems to be able to drink it all while it’s hot so I’m hoping this will help with preventing cold coffee. And! You can peek the banner my kids made the day before hanging above him! They were SOOO excited to greet daddy once he woke up from his gifted slumber. There were many joyous cries of “Happy Birthday, Daddy!!!!” 😉
Those who know my husband know that he’s a simple man. He doesn’t like attention; he doesn’t like pomp & circumstance. He loves his people and that’s about it. To celebrate his birthday, I just kept it super low-key with a hodgepodge spread of his favorite foods (although if I’m being honest, his TRUE favorite food is Korean food which I didn’t make here 😅). We grazed and had a birthday lunch in honor of our favorite 36-year-old.
It was ALSO!!! Kylo’s 1-year Gotcha Day! We picked him up from the airport exactly a year ago, on Feb 29, 2020. Granted, there is no Feb 29 this year so we celebrated on Feb 28th but I do remember that it was a Sunday that we got him last year so dates aside, I think it really has been a full year. He’s come a long way in that year, folks!
