We had a FOUR day weekend (for President’s Day weekend) and it was the kind of weekend that I enjoy most – low key, lots of down time at home, and cozy weather!
We kicked off Friday with a slow, lazy morning. I still got up at 5 am even though there was no school because I had some work that I wanted to get done before my kids woke up for the day. I ordered donuts as a breakfast surprise for them and Hubby had promised to make them waffles and bacon (something that is normally only a weekend breakfast thing). While they were waiting for the food, they were all complaining about how hungry they were – which, fair enough, they’re usually up and eating breakfast much earlier than they were on this day. So I told them to grab an apple while they waited. All three of them are getting so big … 🥺
The majority of Friday was s l o w … just how I like! I curled up with a good book (Cursebreakers series was so fun by the way!) and everyone else kept busy with the things they like to do (playing dolls, chess, reading, etc). I love this age with my kids because they’re still little and like spending time with us but they’re old enough to be self-sufficient.
We had a lot of rain this weekend, and I knew that going into the weekend the weather would be majority blah so I wanted to take advantage of whatever sun we had on Friday to walk Kylo. He’s been SUCH a joy to have at home ever since his board & train program.
Friday night I had a GALENTINES celebration with two of my most favorite friends ever. One of them even ordered MILK BAR 😱 to bring to our hangout. We ate, talked, and then watched the third To All The Boys movie on Netflix. I LOVED the book series but thought the first two movies were meh … (like cringy corny) but the last movie was SO GOOD. It evoked the exact same emotions in me that the books did and the acting since the first two movies has improved so much that I was able to watch the whole thing without cringing. So fun!
Y’all, I am OLD. I know I am old because I legit had just ONE glass of champagne at my Galentines on Friday but on Saturday I woke up with what felt like the worst hangover of my life. In my younger days, I’d have to pound back two bottles of soju to wake up feeling like that. Blah. I just sort of languished in bed, lamenting over my age and broken metabolism, while J took D to soccer. He FaceTimed with us at one point and A climbed into bed with me because she wanted to say hi to her daddy.
The rest of the day was seriously so low-key. I spent the the entire day reading the other books in the Cursebreakers trilogy. Our neighbors (empty-nesters) dropped off some homemade Valentines Day treats. They did this at Christmas time too so the kids made little thank you cards and pictures … and then in response, they gave us more treats. So sweet but also, our neighbors are making it very hard for me to lose my quarantine weight.
I also noticed this whole weekend that D was just glued by his daddy’s side. Anything J is doing, D wants to do. Or D wants his attention. Or his approval. It’s really, really, precious to see. I love that D loves his daddy so much and I love that despite how hard Hubby works, he is ALWAYS willing to set aside the time to give little guy some 1:1 time. I see D blooming and thriving under the love and leadership of his daddy and it makes me so happy! Plus as a wife, how is that NOT SEXY TO SEE!? I love seeing a man leading his home with grace and love 😉
I ended Saturday night by watching the Framing Britney Spears documentary on Hulu and it just made me SO SAD. I grew up idolizing her and thinking she was the coolest ever. Every girl I knew in high school wanted to look like her or be like her … and this documentary really opened my eyes to how much she clearly struggled with her mental health in the public eye. Instead of someone stepping up to help her, the whole world mocked her. If you’re interested in pop culture or came-of-age in that time when pop princesses were the epitome of cool, Id highly recommend watching.
Sunday was Valentine’s Day! I honestly wasn’t expecting anything at all LOL! I even made a passing remark/joke to J earlier on Friday or Saturday about how he probably forgot to get me flowers and that I didn’t want grocery store flowers so to not even bother. After almost 12 years of marriage you’d think I’d know him better but I always underestimate him. He surprised me with flowers and a Lululemon gift card 🙂 The man knows the way to my heart!
We streamed church service and then spent the afternoon getting at-home haircuts and baking cookies. Our kids will be finally finally FINALLY 🙌🏻 be returning to hybrid learning at their elementary schools this week and no non-staff will be allowed on the campus; meaning, parents will not be allowed to walk their kids to their classrooms. Since my kids have not been on campus in almost a year they do NOT know where their current classrooms are (how FUNNY is that). I wasn’t too worried about E being able to find her class room number… but I was a littttle worried about D since the kindergarten quad is a slightly separate area of campus from the rest of the elementary school and he hasn’t been on campus since March of kindergarten. SO, we took a quick walk to the school this day too so they could have a chance to find where their classrooms would be. I think they’re excited to be going back to school even though it’s just a hybrid model.
We ended Love Day with a family movie night all together. We watched the made-for-tv musical version of Cinderella that aired in 1997 and starred Brandy. Who else remembers this version of Cinderella?! A passed out within the first 10 minutes of the movie and continued to sleep through the ENTIRE movie. Great.
2017–>2021. Some things never change.
Unrelated, but I started getting hives on my neck and I think that’s a sign that I need to cut out the dairy from my diet again. Dairy tends to give me rashes like this and I KNOW THIS and yet I still find myself eating more dairy than I should. I can usually get away with it for a few days but after a week (or less) my body starts telling me … it’s time.
Monday was a SUPER rainy and wet day … which was perfectly fine because we had literally nothing on our schedule on Monday. Truly – nothing. Look at my calendar LOL. (We were originally scheduled to have our new fence work started this day but because it’s so wet & rainy, the project has been pushed back a day.)
The kids played together, watched a movie, and just in general bummed around together. I’m a firm believer that if you want your kids to have a close relationship you need to let them be bored together and just let them figure out their own dynamics. I snapped this pic of them all playing together in A’s room. E & A are pretending it’s a doll’s birthday; A is fake playing the guitar and singing Happy Birthday for the doll’s party; D is off in the corner, half mumbling Happy Birthday but also half not paying attention.
Oh! I did make it to the grocery store yesterday since holiday or not, Mondays are my Trader Joe’s day and LOOK WHAT I FOUND!
These are the BEST snacks!! I’ve been looking for them every week that I’m at TJ’s for the last few months but they haven’t been stocking them .. until now! If you haven’t tried them yet, RUN to your local Trader Joe’s and FIND THEM.
