I feel like all of my blog posts lately have been weekend recaps 😂 #sorrynotsorry. Life has been busy, what can I say?
In my mind, I’d like to get to a point where we might use this long weekend to go up to the snow and ski/snowboard. I don’t particularly like cold weather sports but I did grow up skiing/snowboarding almost every year, especially in my middle & high school years, and I’d like to pass that proficiency down to my kids. Anyway, we didn’t go away this year because none of us (me, J) were really feeling it. We had a slow, lazy weekend together at home and it was absolute perfection.
friday
This weekend, it really DID start on Friday because my kids had no school this day! I took them to the reservoir with Kylo to burn off some energy in the morning. D shocked me because he ran around almost the entire thing and didn’t seem to break a sweat; his stamina is something else! I think it’s all the soccer he’s been playing (running around the field). It was a BEAUTIFUL day to be out at the reservoir!
After the reservoir, we came home and immediately got lazy 😂 You know how there’s that stereotype of how some people only exercise so that they can eat whatever they want? I only do active things so I don’t feel too bad about being a complete sloth later on LOL. D watched TV in the playroom and the girls & I got cozy on the living room couch. The girls watched Cinderella while I straight up binge watched the last few episodes of Our Beloved Summer. I LOVED IT SO MUCH *sigh. I had a HUGE k-drama “hangover” after it was finished; it was so good!!
saturday
Saturday we had a sloooow morning together but I eventually had to pull myself together because I was meeting SJS Book Club for a belated Galentine’s Brunch. We ate ALL THE THINGS … it was amazing hahaha. What you see pictured below is only half of what we got … we each ordered a second thing on top of this 😂
I also tried out a set of Glamnetic’s press-on nails for the first time ever. The holographic color is super pretty but I’m not a huge fan of the fit/shape if I’m honest. I loved my last pair from Olive & June so much, I wanted to test if I loved it because it was an almond shape which I’ve never tried before (or if because it was truly something unique from O&J) hence why I put on this almond set from Glamnetic. These were a little more claw/pointy than I think I’d prefer normally AND the fit was terrible. The nails were, no joke, either half the width of my normal nail (so no way it would fit) or wayyyy wider, like what would be meant for a thumb or something. I made do with the wider nails but I feel like they made my hands look bigger than usual and it’s not like I have super slender fingers to begin with, you know?
And here’s my OOTD from brunch too! The details are already up on my IG so head over there if you’re curious about where something is from.
Meanwhile, while I was at brunch, J was also having a breakfast date … with all three of our kids. He took them out to eat and then made them run the track at one of the local high schools before also taking them to lunch. Dad of the year over here!
I also finally got in this new Casetify phone case that I ordered, like, four weeks ago (eyeroll). It took FOREVER to come but I love it! It’s a custom photo collage on the back 🙂
The rest of the day was spent, as you guessed, in jammies and laziness. *Chef’s kisses* 🤌🏻🤌🏻
sunday
Sunday was NOT lazy 😂 Well… not completely lazy. We went to church and spent most of the morning there. I dressed E in a matching dress as mine and tried to get J to take a picture but a tiny photo bomber was not happy about being excluded hahaha.
After church, we came home and ate lunch and … YES, had another lazy day!! Sunday was a tad chillier than the beautiful weather we’d had on Friday & Saturday so it was cozy to be at home in my Comfy. I read a little bit and just relaxed in general … the kids played and bopped around the house. It was serene and just what I needed.
monday
Monday, we ALL slept in until past 9. The dogs uncharacteristically didn’t start whining at 7am like usual so we were all able to get some much needed rest, especially J. Even the kids slept in! Around 9, the dogs started stirring so we all slowly woke up. Our original plan this day was to go hike a local ridge trail at around 9am because it would take a few hours to reach the top, then we could come back down and check on the dogs before eating lunch. But since we had a late start to the morning, we decided to just go up the ridge trail halfway to cut the time in half. It was our first time up this trail and it gave the most BEAUTIFUL views of our little town! Oh! And we didn’t bring our dogs because (1) we heard this trail was really muddy and bathing the dogs afterwards was not something we wanted to do (it turned out to not be muddy so womp) and (2) it was our first time going and we wanted to control the variables we could, aka not have two little dogs in additional to our three kids to handle while walking.
The weather was absolute perfection – crisp and cool with bright winter sun. The kids did great, there was literally no complaining! We may not be a big snow family or biking family BUT I think we are starting to become hiking/walking family 🤩 It’s something all five of us enjoy.
After hiking for about an hour and a half total, we came back home and fed the dogs/relieved them before heading back out to have dimsum for lunch. I’ve actually REALLY been craving Din Tai Fung (😭 but no seriously, I’ve been wanting it for 2+ years – will someone go eat it with me?) but it was too far for us today so we settled with a local place that we’ve heard good things about. We got there around 145/2pm and figured that because it was kind of after the lunch rush, we might not have to wait tooooo long.
Wrong.
The line and wait were still crazy at this time! J put down our name and waited while I took the kids back to the car to watch a movie on the tablet. But literally as soon as I got to the car, I got this text from him:
I guess there was another big party that had just finished and were leaving and the lady at the front desk (WHO KNOWS WHY?) pointed at J and asked – “hey, you wanna sit there?”. J said uh … yea, that’d be great. Then she told him, okay then you buss the table. “If you clean, you can sit.” … SO HE DID HAHAHAAHAHAH. This old grandpa came out from the back with a bucket and J cleaned the table HAHAHAHH. That is such an Asian style of doing business, they don’t care at all. Later an old Asian lady server came to ask us what tea we wanted. She literally said “What tea you want?”. J said “We’ll do a green tea.” She replied, “You can have jasmine tea. Ok?” HAHAHAHAHAH. Uh ok … we’ll have Jasmine tea I guess? Then later again, we ordered soup dumplings as part of our order and they never came out. We flagged down a guy and asked (this was wayyy later, like an hour later. All our other food had come and we’d eaten everything). We said, hey, the soup dumplings never came. He said, “Oh yea, we don’t have any, we ran out this morning.” ….. LOL OK well thanks for telling us when we ordered them. They rang them up on our bill and everything! You’d think someone would mention it to us beforehand but ok sure, whatever 😂 The food was good though so there’s that!
After we got home from lunch, D REALLY wanted to go ride his bike at our elementary school so I loaded Kylo and A and we walked/biked/scootered over and played for a bit until the weather got too chilly.
And then I came home and collapsed 😂 It felt like I’d been walking all day long! It was a great weekend, though, with LOTS of time together outside. I hope you all had a relaxing few days together too!
