When was the last time you went on a girls’ trip? Hah, I can’t even remember the last time I went out for a girls’ night out dinner let alone a full on trip! I was supposed to go to The Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference back in June with some friends which would have been a form of a girls’ trip mixed in with biblical learning. I was super excited about that trip and then so disappointed when it inevitably got canceled due to the pandemic.
Well, for what seems like the first time in forever, I went on a girls’ weekender trip to Napa with the girls who I do my podcast with (Pen & Page Gals podcast available on Spotify and Apple!). It was sort of thrown out as a random suggestion by someone – “Hey we should go on a trip!” – type of thing … and one thing led to another and somehow I found myself in Napa with friends. Not that I’m complaining.
Since it’s been such a long time since I’ve been on a trip like this, I documented the whole thing with pictures so I could blog about it. And then that way you can live vicariously through my post if you’re itching for a girls’ trip, too …
Waiting to be picked up by my fraaaaaands. It was the first time in recent memory that I’d done both my hair AND makeup.
First stop after getting picked up was to the Oxbow Public Market in Napa for lunch. There were so many different eateries within the marketplace to pick from for lunch but we settled on Hog Island Oyster Co. I was super impressed with the social distancing efforts the market put into place. Everyone had to wear masks to even enter inside the marketplace and if you wanted to sit in the open outdoor seating area, there were certain tables marked off where you couldn’t sit. Every other table had stickers like this on them so that it ended up being so a party was seated at every other table with ample space in between everyone.
After eating lunch, we decided browse around the inside of the market and all three of us squealed when we came upon the tiny bookstore inside. I don’t even know when the last time I was inside a physical bookstore was!
After lunch & window shopping, we headed over to our hotel to check in. We were admittedly super early (check in was at 3pm and we came at 1pm) but the hotel was beautiful and we were allowed to go up to the rooftop to chill/read/wait until our room was ready. We stayed at the Archer Hotel in Napa and it was so pretty.
We spent the afternoon soaking up sun and books and pretty soon it was time for dinner. Even thinking about it now, I’m amazed at how quickly the afternoon went by even though we literally were doing nothing but relaxing. We were a little paralyzed by all the choices available for where we could eat dinner but thankfully, with a little bit of executive decision making by my friend S, we settled on Italian (with no regrets!). We got it to-go and ate it in our hotel room … social distancing, y’all!
The whole room smelled like delicious garlicky Italian food after dinner and I aint mad about it. We read some more after dinner 🙂
After relaxing a bit, we went back out to walk around a bit and got some ice cream. I actually can’t really eat dairy without it giving me a rash, lots of gas, and occasionally extreme stomach pain so I don’t know what I was thinking in ordering this ice cream. I ended up just eating the yummy toppings and tossing the rest of it.
We finished the night off with masks and watching The Kissing Booth on Netflix together on our phones. It was a cute movie, I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of it or watched it until now! (It came out in 2018.)
Rise & shine early the next morning! I slept in the latest and was still awake by 830 am hahah. First order of business was coffee …
Followed by brunch at Brix Napa Valley – their gardens are seriously SWOONworthy.
Last stop after brunch was picking up goodies from Bouchon Bakery in Yountville where I spent $73 on pastries and cookies. Yikes. Then it was back in the car and back to our families! It was short & sweet but perfect.
