HEHEHEEH!! I just got back from the most AMAZING weekend celebrating my 36th birthday (which is officially tomorrow, the 14th!). I have a lot of pictures and lots to recap, so sit back, grab a coffee and enjoy!
I kicked off my weekend with a staycation in SF with two friends .. we met at one girl’s house and all took one car together. I was surprised to get to her car and find that the shotgun seat had been decked out with a “Birthday Queen” sash and tiara. Of course I had to oblige and wear it 🙂
First things first, we checked into the St. Regis hotel where we would be staying …
Then we grabbed our coffees and took a short 5 minute walk …
to the Palace Hotel so that we could have their tea service for lunch. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.
The food and tea were, as expected, really yummy but the STAR of the tea service was really these buttermilk scones with the clotted cream. I WISH I COULD BATHE IN THEIR CLOTTED CREAM 😭
Also, they brought out this special birthday dessert that I wasn’t too excited about at first because it looked super rich and chocolatey but it turned out to be SUPER YUMMY. Not too sweet at ALL. That light tan colored inner filling was so freakin delicious.
After lunch, we moseyed on over to the Burke Williams Spa in SF and got ready to spend a few hours in what would soon become all of our favorite place on the earth 😂I LOVED THIS SPA. It’s not the fanciest spa ever but I just loved the relaxation it offered and the services were all legit. You’re welcome to stay and hang out/use their amenities for as long as you want so we took advantage of the jacuzzi, steam room, quiet rooms etc. I had a facial and a massage and walked out of the spa feeling like I was floating on clouds.
Since we were all oiled up and loosey goosey after our spa day, we decided to “to-go” dinner from Oren’s Hummus and eat it in our rooms. It was my first time having it and their hummus is SO GOOD. The ingredients are apparently imported straight from Israel!? I don’t know but it was BOMB DOT COM food. I’m craving it again even just typing this now.
After eating, we all washed up and got comfy in our jammies… then literally spent the rest of the night not talking to each other. That might sound awkward to you, but to ME it was the best thing ever. These are two friends that I can be my truest self around .. meaning, I spent the next few hours quietly reading my book while they both watched their own things on their individual phones with AirPods in. It was comfortable, peaceful, introvert’s paradise, silence.
But there were snacks involved, fret not. We got the basics handled.
Around 1130, we all decided to call it a day – the other two girls returned to their room (my husband booked two rooms so nobody would have to share a bed. At my age, I refuse to share a bed with anyone I’m not married to) and I turned off my lights and hit the sack.
The next morning, I woke up SUPER relaxed and rested at … 530am. LOLOLLLOL!! NO JOKE, before I opened my eyes I thought it must surely be around 8 am. Nope, 530 am. I was so relaxed, I drifted back off to sleep before waking up around 645ish and staying awake for good this time. I just watched YouTube videos/TikTok until the girls texted me that they were also awake. I also FaceTimed with my kids at home once it reached a time when I thought they’d be awake as well….
And then we ordered the most beautiful room service brunch. You’d think that hotel room service is just meh but here, at the St. Regis, it was better than any “cutesy” brunch spot in SF we could have gone to. Plus we didn’t have to get ready and could just eat in our jammies! Win win!
We ate breakfast, got dressed … and just took a slooowwwww morning packing all our bags and stuff. We chilled and watched football/played on our phones. Yes, you read that correctly – we watched football on our moms’ staycation away. One of my friends is a super big sports nerd 😂
THEN, once it was time, we checked out of the hotel, loaded up the car and went to get our nails done! Here is where I commenced to experience the longest pedicure OF MY LIFE. My pedicure took TWO HOURS LOL. Why!? I don’t know why!? I did have a “deluxe” service but still!! TWO HOURS!? It was the slowest, most detailed pedicure of my life 😂 We had a good time relaxing, though.
We finished our nail services… got some more coffee … then headed back out of SF to have a late lunch with two more of my friends for a big group birthday lunch. We ate at one of my favorite Japanese restaurants and I was SO HAPPY to be surrounded by all my favorite people (minus one or two) and have my heart & belly filled with gratitude.
Then I came home and opened the cards/gifts my friends gave me. I honestly don’t need much .. the fact that these girls took their time to just be with me was enough … plus the spa weekend away was so much spoiling from my friends already. I’ve had years when birthdays have felt hard or lacking in the friendship arena but this is not one of those years. Truly, one of the best birthdays in recent memory 🤍
Also, the most memorable part of this entire weekend has got to be the singing bellhop I got. Nobody ordered this … nobody asked for it … but the bellhop who was delivering our bags on Saturday saw my birthday sash, wished me a happy birthday and then said, quote: “It’s your lucky day because I’m actually a singing bellhop and I’m going to serenade you!” …
And then he actually did serenade me.
Which was so awkward.
So.
so.
awkward.
Ahhhhhahaahahahahahahah #memories.
