Hi guys- so … here’s the thing. Last week was just a REALLY WEIRD week. Capped off by a REALLY WEIRD weekend. So, I don’t have my usual “Top 10” moments from the weekend for today’s blog post but I still wanted to document my weekend.
The weekend felt like it started on Thursday last week. On Thursday AM, I woke up to go to my early AM bar class and saw that I had a text from Hubs saying D had woken up in the middle of the night crying because of his forehead. I crept by his room to go out to my class and felt his head .. nothing felt that crazy to me, and he was sleeping peacefully so I went to my workout and came back.
After coming back, though, Hubby (who was in D’s room with him) kept texting me saying D is NOT feeling well, he’s pretty sick, etc, so I went in again and saw that D was in a lot of pain and was complaining about his forehead. Our at-home temperature thermometer is super old but it said that he didn’t have a fever even though Hubby kept telling me D felt warm to him. My hands are always cold in the AM so it was hard for me to gauge by touch alone. The headache was really worrying me though because it was so sudden and seemed so severe so I called the advice nurse.
After some back & forth with the advice nurse, she seemed concerned enough to ask me to bring him to the ER ASAP .. and she told me to bring my cell phone and if anything worsened in the 10 minute car ride over, I was to stop and call 911 I’ll just say … mama was freaking out.
THANKFULLY, a few hours in the ER and one nose swab later confirmed that D just had the flu .. and the doctor told me that the flu strain this year is giving some really strange symptoms you wouldn’t normally associate with the flu such as super bad headaches. I think they were initially concerned about meningitis which is why they wanted him to be seen urgently but thankfully it wasn’t that.
So … obviously, D couldn’t go to school or any of his after school stuff starting from Thursday. It just made our weekend feel like it started sooner, especially since Hubs also worked from home on both those days just to be an extra adult around in case I needed him. So there’s that.
Friday was a blur .. lots of taking care of sick D. His doctor gave us TamiFlu which I was hesitant at first about giving but now, on the other side of it, I can tell you that his flu was only 48 hours and by Saturday he was completely fever free.
Speaking of Saturday, everyone got to sleep in a little bit which was much needed. We don’t normally get to sleep in that late on Saturdays because D usually has Korean school so it was a bit of a luxury. I went to a SoulCycle class with a friend – I think I’ve found my favorite instructor at our local studio!
Here’s the next “happening” of my weird weekend. If you don’t already know, we have been on the waitlist to bring home a new dog for a few months now. I obsessively check my breeder’s website even though I KNOW we’re still a few months out from getting our turn on the list, and when I checked on Friday night I happened to see a listing for the CUTEST DOG EVER AVAILABLE NOW. It was a dog from a friend of our breeder .. she had an unexpectedly large litter and had one puppy leftover that was being sold at a discounted price because it was the last one left and she wanted it to have a home. I’m telling you, the dog was speaking to my soul. James and I went back and forth on Fri and Sat but Saturday decided we WANTED THE DOG and were set to go with the breeder. All we were waiting for was for her to send us the contract so we could send her the remaining balance. We told our kids we’re getting our dog finally, showed them videos and pictures, they were so stoked! I don’t want to go into details right now but .. basically, it didn’t happen. And I was so sad and traumatized … I was actually surprised at how attached I’d become to this dog in less than 24 hours. SO THAT SUCKED.
The rest of Saturday, I actually had to photograph baby A with these really sweet knit petal bows we were given by my favorite bow company, Wunderkin Co. They selected a few real life clients to showcase these new bows that are dropping tomorrow. A friend had the brilliant idea to take baby A for a cupcake so she’d be in a good mood (shout-out SY- thanks girl)!
She gave me this idea because I tried earlier in the day to get some cute shots on baby A and they all looked like this:
Bwahahaha so that was Saturday. It was honestly another day of blur.
On Sunday, Hubby went to church with E while I stayed home with D & baby A. Even though D had been fever free for 24-hours by then, I just didn’t want to tire him out or expose him to more germs so we stayed put at home. I love our pastor and his teaching so I hate staying at home .. our church does have a live stream of every service so people can catch the service if they can’t make it in person but it’s hard to concentrate when there’s a toddler screeching in the background at home lol. I ended up turning on a movie for the kids so I could pay attention.
I’ve been journaling my sermon notes for the past year or so .. it helps me concentrate and retain the information better!
After “church”, I spent the rest of the day puttering around at home. I took it as a real rest day since the previous few days had been so crazy. I ordered some groceries …
Took the opportunity to appreciate the BEAUTIFUL weather outside my front door…
And re-read a childhood favorite book.
This book is so good!! If you’ve never read it, you MUST it’s a quick read. After reading, I started googling the movie because I remembered loving the one that came out in the 90s when I was a kid .. then I saw there was a British mini series from the 80s that is hailed as most accurate to the book. I found the whole thing on YouTube and spent three hours of my Sunday evening binge watching hahaha. I HAVE NO REGRETS.
Somewhere in between groceries and binge watching A Little Princess, I had Hubby take D to the minor injury clinic. He had injured his finger on the playground on Valentine’s Day trying to climb up a slide (and falling). At the time my first question was obviously IS IT BROKEN but Hubby insisted it was just a sprain. I went against my better judgment and listened to Hubby but on Sun, more than a week after he hurt it, it just LOOKED wrong to me so I made Hubby take him. And guess who was right
Hairline fracture in his middle finger! 3-4 weeks with the cast on 🤦🏻♀️ and that was the last weird thing of my weekend.
Guys- I am ready to RECLAIM MY WEEK this week and make it a good one. Pray for me!
