Hey hey! Ho ho! Spring break is over! Compared to last year’s spring break, when nobody knew what was happening and it seemed like the entire world was imploding, this year’s spring break was considerably more relaxing and enjoyable. We didn’t go anywhere but decided to treat our house like an Air BnB and live it up, staycation style.
The weather was *phenomenal* so there was lots of time spent outside both at home …
and at our local parks.
The kiddos ran errands with me (which, wow – is significantly easier with a 10, 7, and 4 year old than it used to be with, say, a 7, 4, and 1 year old).
There was lots of reading …
drawing …
and snuggling in bed with later mornings & wake times.
Of course there was dancing …
and outdoor picnics.
Towards the end of spring break week, the weather got so hot that it was even warm enough to SWIM. I mean, the water was FREEZING but that didn’t seem to bother my kids at all.
On the weekend at the end of spring break, we spent it with some of our favorite FRamily …
And then we ended our spring break with a huge bang because it was Easter and y’all HE IS RISEN! I have zero pictures of my family or even of my kids together on Easter but we all got dressed up and went to church. I got emotional sitting in church at Easter service because I remembered last year’s Easter service felt so depressing … streaming service online and not knowing when things would be reopening again.
We woke up Easter morning and I had Easter baskets ready for the kids ..
And a WHOLE BUNCH of filled eggs for an egg hunt.
In my friend group, I am the one who typically hosts Easter … we do lunch and a big egg hunt after church at my house! With COVID, I asked everyone to stay outside this year but typically we have kids and adults running in and out and it’s just an all around good time.
In the beginning years when we’d host Easter, we did it potluck style where every family brought something to share but it got hard with the logistics – so many of our friends would be coming to our house straight from church so would their food just sit in the car during church? Do they buy something from the store on their way over? Etc, etc, so a few years ago we switched to catering lunch and everyone pitching in $ for it. We always cater from the same bomb Mexican taqueria nearby and it’s always so good 🤤🤤 I have no pictures of the food set up but here’s a picture of one of my cleared plates. I had multiple plates of food 😉 And guys – this sangria mix from Costco .. do not sleep on it! It’s SO GOOD!
After eating and chilling, there was an intense egg hunt 😂
Guys, every year I feel like we don’t have enough eggs. We’ll unleash the kids for the hunt and within 5 minutes it’s DONE. This year, I was determined to make sure to have enough eggs to not only fill EVERY kid’s basket to the brim but also to make the hunt last longer than just a few minutes. I think we had something like 500 eggs total HAHAH. I prepared 250 myself and then the other families also brought eggs too. It was maybe … almost … borderline too many eggs 😂 But as long as the kids had a good time, that’s really all that matters.
And that’s it! We had the best week of doing life at a slower pace and spending time together both with one another and with our favorite people. I definitely indulged and enjoyed myself and my shorts don’t fit but … from here on out, it’s time to buckle down LOL. Summer is coming!
