Hey, so I know spring break was over a month ago now BUT better late than never – am I right? Here is a little recap on what we did for spring break this year!
Our original plan was to visit Canada with our friends but work for both the husbands started getting really busy so we quickly decided to scrap that idea. A shorter, more “local” trip for fewer days was something more our speed so after brainstorming a bit we landed on San Diego!
First up, coffee on the way to the airport.
Three kids, packed & ready to have some fun!
This was our last flight/trip where we could squeeze Baby A on for free as a “lapsit” baby. Reality is, we’d put her on our lap for takeoff and landing but in between, she’d just wedge in between the seats next to her siblings. Our kids are pro flyers by now and they loooooove all the screen time they get in flight hahahaha.
Baby A inevitably falls asleep on most flights to/from Socal because the times typically fall within her naptime. I had to blur out Hubby’s face here because he looked more tired than the baby ^_____^
So instead of flying into the San Diego area, we decided to fly into Orange County and then take a rental car and drive. The drive was supposed to be about an hour but ended up taking two hours because we were in bumper to bumper traffic for basically the entire way. But, the magic of the iPad never fails and the kids did fine.
We stayed at an Air BnB with the friends we were traveling with and cooked up a little Korean BBQ party for dinner the first night. It’s more than a month later and I think I still feel full from this meal.
The next morning we all got up and headed to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! We were originally planning for the actual zoo but it was further from where we were staying and Hubby & I have actually never been to the Safari Park so we made a last minute switch. I would highly recommend it – it was awesome!
Kiddos ready to explore!
I really loved the Zoo Safari Park because of how close up you could get to the animals. There were good views of just about every exhibit we went to.
Case in point: Look how close we got to the lionesses!
We also rode this automated hot air balloon thing that gave us awesome views of the entire park.
One happy toddler, just living her best life.
This girl was SO tired and fought her nap tooth & nail but eventually caved.
After lunch and a few more rides, we decided to head back to the Air BnB to let the kids swim in the pool. I don’t think the pool was heated but they didn’t seem to mind 🙂
After some swimming and relaxing, we all went out to grab dinner. And oh look! We picked up two more kids on the way 😉 M1 & M1 (aka Baby A’s surrogate older sisters) came down with their mom to play with us during Spring Break, too.
We ate pho for dinner which I don’t have a picture of but afterwards we went to this random Asian cafe to get dessert and wow, this mochi waffle with vanilla ice cream was so stinkin good!
Is it even a vacation if the night doesn’t end with face masks? C’mon now. I’m obsessssssed with this mask by Glow Recipe right now – if you’re a Rouge member, they’re running a 20% off your entire order promo right now!
The next morning started bright and early. We had big plans for Legoland and wanted to get there as close to park opening as possible. Baby A slept soooo well and had a really hard time waking up in the AM. Gee, what a life.
Tired and a little confused why I wouldn’t let her sleep in.
Excited to take on Legoland! Our friends are season pass holders and had raved about how much they prefer Legoland over Disney. We’d never taken our kids before so I was a bit skeptical but guys, after spending a day there … I’m a believer! Here’s the thing, Disney is MAGICAL. You can’t replace that aspect of it. But if you’re just looking for your kids to have fun and ride rides, Legoland is way better. It’s less crowded, cheaper, and almost all the rides are geared towards little kids. We’re definitely big fans now!
Look at all those big smiles 🙂
These two girlies really bonded during this trip, I think. So sweet!
Cool your jets there, little brother.
After our day at Legoland, we were invited over to eat freaking DELICIOUS homecooked Korean food by one of my friends’ aunts. I don’t have a picture of the food but trust me when I say we got spoiled hard by some homemade love. YUM YUM YUM.
And that was that! The next day we packed our bags and got ready to head back to reality. But before we got to the airport, I HAD to make a pit stop and get this amazing coffee one more time. We actually had it for the first time on a previous day but it was so good, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was from a cafe called Better Buzz Coffee and this drink is called their iced “Best Drink Ever”. And let me tell you – it was the best drink ever. So I made sure to have it one more time before we left for home.
Asleep on the plane as usual.
Home! 😀
