I have a newfound love and her name is Olive & June. Olive & June is actually a nail polish brand that I recently discovered and man … to say that I am obsessed is a HUGE understatement!
IYKYK but in case you don’t, here is a little history on me and my love for nail polish – I am a big nail polish aficionado. Before getting married, I used to get regular mani/pedis .. like, we’re talking every 2 weeks types of regularity. Once Hubby & I got married, budget was a little tight so I learned how to do my own manicures (but not pedicures) AND we started a date night tradition where we would go to Target on a date night and I’d get to pick a bottle of nail polish. Fast forward a few years and my nail polish collection grew and I got pretty good at doing my own nails. Of course eventually Hubby graduated from law school and we could afford to put nail salons back into the budget but to this day I still love doing my own nails in between salon visits… in fact, these days I actually prefer to do my own manicures at home, even though I regularly go to the nail salon to get my toes done by a professional. I only get a professional manicure if someone is offering to treat me or once in awhile if I want to clean up my cuticles or something since that’s not something I do at home by myself.
So because of this history I’ve always had a big love for Essie, OPI, and all the other popular brands a person might find out there. About a year or so ago, after Marie Kondo’s “spark joy” philosophy got really popular, I purged almost my entire nail polish collection. I think I had close to 300 bottles by that time and it was getting out of hand as a lot of the colors were super old or too similar to other colors for me to really reach for them.
What drew my eye initially to Olive & June was their Poppy. The Poppy is a universal polish bottle handle that you “pop” onto any nail polish bottle lid and it gives you a wider surface to grip while you paint your nails. I’d NEVER seen anything like this on the market before so I was immediately curious not only about The Poppy itself but the brand that made it.
Once I started browsing, I was super impressed with ALL their products – their nail file, their clean up brush – literally all of it. And their polishes are all vegan, cruelty-free, and “7-Free” meaning their nail polish is free of the 7 leading chemicals that most other nail polish formulations contain. Since my daughters are both old enough to want and wear nail polish, I really liked that this was polish I could feel safe letting my girls wear, too.
But let’s be honest, guys. The real thing that sold me was … the colors are SO PRETTY. I’m sure there are similar dupes from other brands out there but I loved how the colors looked fresh and clean. I’m still new to the brand but from what I think I know, it seems like they drop polish collections seasonally (Winter Collection, Fall Collection, etc) and you can buy the collection as a whole and get a small discount or you can buy one shade at a time. I went ahead and purchased their The Everything Box since it includes 6 nail polish shades of your choice AND all their tools. They’re also available at Target but Target doesn’t sell every single one of their products, and I think some of their tools (like their nail buff and nail file) are only available if you purchase through a kit on their website like The Everything Box I just mentioned.
I’ve been using their polish for about a month now .. I think I’ve rotated through three colors or so, just painting my nails about every week. You would think that because the polishes are free of many of the big chemicals, the quality wouldn’t be there and YOU WOULD BE WRONG, MY FRIEND. These nail polishes, I don’t know what they’re made of, but they do not chip. I REPEAT THEY DO NOT CHIP. I do think the secret is in their top coat … I took one of their polishes to go get a professional manicure but didn’t bring the top coat, let the nail salon use their own top coat, and the manicure did not last past a few days. When I painted them at home with the Olive & June top coat, though … 7 days and minimal chipping! They also just released their dry drops which I tried for the first time yesterday. They’re little drops that you put onto your mani or pedi after top coat and they dry your nails in 80 seconds. It’s not a gimmick y’all, I tried it. I painted my nails right before going to bed, put on the dry drops, waited about 2-3 minutes to be safe and they were DRY. I went to bed and when I woke up this morning, my nails didn’t have any of those weird little crease marks in them that you can sometimes get if you sleep with nails that aren’t “set” yet.
If you’re not that confident in painting your own nails, their website & IG also have a bunch of tutorials and tips to help you get better .. I think they call it Mani Bootcamp or something. Or you could always just bring the polish to the nail salon (don’t forget to bring the Olive & June top coat, too!) and have a professional paint it on for you.
This post isn’t sponsored AT ALL, like, c’mon I only have 5 readers, who is going to sponsor me? BUT if you wanted to try Olive & June, I do have a referral link you can use! It’ll save you $10 off your first bottle of nail polish so if you’re going to try them out, please use my link! 😀 Thanks guys! I’m seriously so in love with this brand that I think I’m going to slowly try and rebuild my entire nail polish collection with all Olive & June polishes.
