Mother’s Day, Mother’s Day. I saw a funny TikTok leading up to Mother’s Day saying that as much as we’d like to NOT … the reality is us moms will STILL be mothering on Mother’s Day 😂 I think if I had asked J to send me away to a hotel room alone for the weekend as my Mother’s Day gift, he totally would have but really, what I needed this Mother’s Day is exactly what I got – uninterrupted time with my favorite people in the whole world.
Mother’s Day started off just like every other Sunday. D had soccer in the early AM and E had her equestrian class. I would have loved to sleep in until, like, noon but I peeled myself out of bed and moseyed on over to the kitchen to get coffee before heading out to drop E off. (To be honest, sleeping until 8am is still kind of like sleeping in for me since I’m usually up before the sun during the regular week.)
I didn’t get breakfast in bed this year (not that I’d want it … too much of a mess) because D had to rush off so early in the AM but first thing I saw when I walked into the kitchen was this:
So stinkin cute. In the early years, J used to write the kids’ Mother’s Day cards for them and sign it as them but now they’re all (except A) old enough to write their own cards and I AM LOVING IT. J told D to help A with hers but by “help”, D actually just wrote literally word-for-word the exact same thing in A’s card that he did in his own. HAHA! Both of them say that they love when I pack them lunch and tuck them into bed at night. (This is true … at 7 years old, D still cries if I’m not available to tuck him in at night. I hope he doesn’t outgrow this for a long time.) E’s card said that she loves when I drive her to her different activities and she loves taking Kylo for walks together. 🥺 Omg. Love it. All I could think about when reading her card was this Mother’s Day that I wrote about in one of my first ever posts on this blog (back then this blog was called Manna For Mommy). She’s grown so much and blossomed into the sweetest 10 year old. I just want to hug 2014 Sophia and tell her .. it’s coming. The conversations are coming. The words are coming. Just be patient.
Anyway, I digress.
After I ooh’ed and aah’ed over the cards and the kids’ selected gifts (J told me that D was SO INSISTENT that he give me these super gawdy earrings and …. I … love…. them …. 👀 ….), I dropped E off at her thing (with A in tow) then came back home to get ready for church. Once D got back from soccer, he wished me a Happy Mother’s Day and then RAN to his room saying he had a surprise for me that he’d hidden. LOOOOOOOK! They made these at school apparently. Side note: his 1st grade teacher has been AWESOME! This whole year, for holidays, Mother’s Day, etc … she has helped her students make the most adorable little presents for their parents.
I love this so freaking much, you guys. Also … it’s kind of accurate which I find hilarious LOL.
D asked me if I liked the bookmark he made and I LOVE IT. This is the stuff that motherhood dreams are made of guys 😂I’ve officially arrived.
After everyone was dressed and ready, we loaded up the car and headed to church for service. You know, I’m happy to say that after a few months of consistent sitting together in “big church”, my kids are all able to sit pretty quietly through the service. Even A! She’s not perfect but she knows to stay quiet and I think it helps that I bring coloring stuff and stickers for her.
Anyway, no pictures from church. After church, we went to the nearby grocery store and did some grocery shopping and purchased picnic food for lunch, too. D & A wanted to stay with daddy and color but E wanted to follow me around the store and help me shop. She was such a helpful little buddy!
After we ate lunch, we spontaneously decided to take the car for a little spin through the local carwash and our kids loved it. Easiest entertainment ever 😂
We ate, then came home, and THEN the real work began. I told J that more than flowers, more than cards, more than gifts, more than “alone time” … the ONE thing I REALLY wanted him to do for Mother’s Day was to build me my last garden box. Spoiler alert: he didn’t get to build it. BUUUUUT, he DID go to Home Depot and finally rally together all the lumber and supplies he needs to build it which I feel like is the harder step for him. Now we have all these raw materials strewn about our front lawn and I know seeing it every day will motivate him to get the box built!
Even though he failed to build me my last box, I did have a second box that was built and ready to be filled with soil/planted so the kiddos and I spent about an hour doing that after church.
And by kiddos & I, I mean I. I did it. By myself. While the kids ran in and out of the house and asked if they could hold the hose 🤪#momlife (J was gone to Home Depot at this time so it was just me and the crazies at home).
After a bit of elbow grease and sweat, we got it done!
I have peppers and strawberries in this box … are those two things good items to plant together? Who knows … we shall find out. Also, I need to get another trellis for that box … the box next to it has tomatoes and I need more tomato cages too. So yea, this whole garden area is still very much a WIP. I eventually would like to add gravel around the boxes … there’s still the third garden box J has yet to build. Anyway, here is a picture of what the garden area as a whole looks like:
After planting everything, the sun was SO hot the kids just wanted to hop in the pool so that’s what they did! They swam while I ate chips and observed.
Oh! Also, I got these beautiful Mother’s Day flowers the day before Mother’s Day.
We spent most of the day in the pool, relaxing, soaking up the sun and the beautiful weather. For dinner, we ordered pizza for the kids and J went all the way to my favorite Korean restaurant to pick up bossam for us to enjoy together for dinner! Yee yee!
During dinner, E came up to me and brought me this little gift that she made me at school! It’s a little notepad and she decorated the front of it! It was originally tied with a ribbon and she brought it to me and whispered “open it!” LOL. It was so sweet! This notepad is going to be perfect for all my little doodles when I’m on phone calls and stuff.
All in all, I had a great Mother’s Day! It was filled with good food, productive time doing things I love, and cuddles with the three babies who made me a mom. If you’re a mom, I hope you had a great Mother’s Day, too!

Congrats on your 10 years of motherhood! It’s been very heartwarming to get a glimpse of your journey as a mom through these years. Always encouraged by the ways you turn to the Word and God in times of difficulties. I think you deserve a gift for 10 year mommiversary psssssh!
