Ah, again, another post that I’ve wanted to do for ages but life got in the way! If you know me IRL, then you know that I’m a total bookworm … no matter how busy I am, I try to squeeze in time here and there to read for fun. I’ve actually read a ton of books so far in 2019 and I’d meant to do monthly posts starting in January with books I’ve read but … that didn’t happen. So here we are, ready for March’s book review!
I read three books this month and .. well, most of them were blah. Hahaha! Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
First up: Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty.
I’ve read almost all of her other books and LOVED them so maybe that’s why I was a little disappointed by this one. I had a feeling it might fall a little flat based on other reviews I’d seen but was hoping that I’d feel differently than other people. Meh, should have trusted what others said. The book wasn’t terrible, I just felt like the plot was really dragged out and I wasn’t as engaged with the story as I was with some of her other books. But if you’re looking for a really easy, light read, then this would be a good candidate for you! And if you haven’t checked out her other books, I highly recommend you try some of her other titles (any of them).
Next up we have Troublemaker by Leah Remini.
This book is her “tell-all” about her experience with Scientology. I don’t know what it is but I have a sort of morbid curiosity about cults like Scientology. I don’t really know what I was expecting with this book but it wasn’t what I thought it would be. She definitely does talk a lot about Scientology but she talks about her personal story a lot as well, and I just wasn’t as invested in her life story that much. Still, it was an interesting read … I just don’t know that I would recommend it.
This last one is really random.
The Reckoning by John Grisham was actually given to me by my mother-in-law. Hahahah! It was sitting on the guest room nightstand in her house when we were visiting over the holidays and she said she just picked it up on a whim from Costco. I do like murder mysteries and have read/enjoyed some of John Grisham’s other books so I thought – why not? And brought it home to read. Ehhhhh, it was just okay. I did find myself staying up late to just get to the ending so the “mystery” could be solved but I didn’t find the ending very satisfying. It was supposed to be a twist but … well, I don’t know. It just wasn’t a satisfying twist in my opinion lol!
Here’s to hoping I have some better reads in April!
