Okay guys – hahaha. Are you sick of these “link-up” style blog posts that I’ve been doing? It’s just that I really love reading these types of posts, especially from my favorite bloggers, so I feel like these themed posts are a good way to keep myself accountable with the posting throughout the year. In case you’re curious, this is what’s scheduled for the “Let’s Look” posts this year (I didn’t organize or come up with this – obviously).
So as you can see – the theme for this month’s “Let’s Look” is to give you a peek into my winter wardrobe. These clothing-type posts always make me a little bit nervous because .. I’m not a fashion blogger! I feel so awkward taking pictures of myself in my clothes – SO awkward that I almost skipped this post altogether LOL. But hey, I put my big girl pants on, put on a brave face, and snapped some photos for you guys so I hope you appreciate it hahahaha.
I also want to say that this is literally just a peek into my winter wardrobe. I don’t subscribe to a “capsule wardrobe” concept where I just rotate the same 10 items all season long (although the idea does intrigue me). It’s not possible for me to show everything that I wear throughout the winter season, especially when you start throwing in different accessories like scarves or shoes in there. My style also changes depending on what my day calls for. I’d say Mon-Fri I’m definitely in a comfy casual chic mode – something that is mom friendly and that I can easily throw in the wash if baby A decides to wipe her greasy fingers on me. Weekends can depend on if there’s date night and Sunday church is usually “Sunday best” unless I’m tired and totally not feeling the dress up thing or we’re serving in Sunday school that month. I think for the sake of this post and to reflect what the majority of my days look like in terms of what I wear, I’ll just focus on the casual chic side of my wardrobe. And with all that said, I figured the best place to start would be here: a picture of my sweater armoire.
I hope you caught my wording there because this is exactly what I said it is .. my sweater armoire. LOL. As in, this is not my closet. My closet is filled with my other clothes and I couldn’t fit all my favorite, chunky, cold-weather sweaters in there anymore so we had to go buy this separate armoire to hold all my sweaters *eyeroll. The good part is that I can show you all my favorite winter tops in one spot?? There are more folded sweaters behind the folded ones in the front .. I have a problem, I know. Sue me, I love clothes.
Anyway, during the cold months, my number 1 priority – more than looking cute – is to BE WARM. I tend to run cold anyway and I need ALL THE COZY THINGS to survive the winters (even though I live in California and the winters are mild compared to other parts of the world …..). My go-to “template” for an outfit during these months is jeans and a chunky sweater. If it’s really cold out, I’ll layer on a puffer jacket or other coat, and/or a scarf … if it’s not as cold out, maybe I’ll do a thinner sweater instead of a chunky one. You get the idea. There’s a lot of mixing & matching happening in my closet too. To give you an idea, this is literally what I wore today – black CJLA jeans, chunky CJLA sweater, and rust colored Target puffer jacket. It was SO cold today and this outfit kept me cute and warm.*Just so you know, throughout this post, I’ll post a link to the specific piece if I can find it – otherwise, it will just be a generic link to the website/brand.
One of my favorite chunky turtleneck sweaters are these ones from Free People. I discovered them last year and are OBSESSED – I confess that I even have them in multiple colors … ^____^ They run a bit larger so you can size down if you want a more fitted look (what I did here) or keep your normal size if you want to be able to wear with leggings and have more of that tunic vibe.
I *think* these are new this year but these next chunky sweaters are also by Free People and I LOVE THEM EVEN MORE THAN THE TURTLENECK SWEATERS. I think these would even be cute with shorts for those weird spring days when it’s sunny out but still cold (or if you just are always cold like me).
I also want to mention the jeans that I’m wearing in this next pic as they’re a staple for me during the cold months. These Madewell jeggings are LIFE. They are SO comfy and SO stretchy but they don’t sag and loosen throughout the day. If you’re petite like me, go for the petite size if you can find them (they’re sold out online but who knows? Maybe you’ll be able to find them in person?).
Depending on how cold it is, under my chunky sweater, I’ll either layer a basic tank or a long-sleeve top like the one below. This one is also by CJLA (you’ll sense a theme in any clothing/fashion posts I do from now on … I’m obsessed with CJLA)!
If it’s not too cold out, I’ll also sometimes just wear a long-sleeve top with a cute cardigan layered on top (again – by CJLA).
And not just for winter, but anytime (spring, fall, etc), my FAVORITE tops to wear by CJLA are either the Evelyn tops ….
Or the Sterling tops. (Sold out right now at CJLA – sorry).
I have a lot of other similar light-weight knits by CJLA but the Evelyn tops and Sterling tops are my two faves – I have both in MULTIPLE different colors. The Evelyns in particular are long enough to wear with leggings too or you can wear them with jeans and do a cute front tuck/tie if you want a more fitted look.
Another classic CJLA sweater that I love during winter days that aren’t too cold is the Rhea. (Again – sold out so I don’t have a link. And also, if you can’t tell by my strong love for CJLA, you NEED to check out their clothes if you haven’t already). But anyway, I love the Rhea because you can do it off-the-shoulder if you’d like; it has the perfect amount of slouch to it. It’s also super cute layered over tank tops in the summer time!
Next up, I’m going to show you some of my favorite outerwear pieces that I’ve been rotating pretty heavily this season. First up – this fuzzy fleece vest that I snagged at Nordstrom. It’s super cozy because of the fleece lining on the inside!
I love this next jacket for days that IDGAF and just want to be warm. It’s the Riley sherpa jacket by CJLA and it’s so warm! I also feel like it’s the kind of jacket you can throw on over anything & it’ll make your outfit cute? I took mine down to Disneyland when we went over winter break last month and it was perfect for being outside in the park till late at night.
This next coat I got at Anthropologie a few years ago so I don’t have a current link for it but this is another fun jacket to throw on over jeans when I’m in a rush and want to be warm. I like that this one has a hood!
My last clothing piece is this nicer windowpane check coat by Madewell that I lusted after for a LONG time before I finally bit the bullet because it went on sale. This is not something that I’d wear for my day-to-day life picking up kids from school and what not, but more for church or a girls’ night out with friends, etc. I know I said this post would focus more on mom-friendly wear but I wanted to still show you an example of a nicer coat I might rock this winter 🙂
I also like to mix up my jeans with different colors and cuts (not just skinny jeans) but I was too lazy and didn’t have time to pull all the different combinations out and take pictures. >< Sorry – I’m not a fashion blogger LOL!
Hope that was fun for you guys to read! It was a little stressful for me to put together but it’ll be worth it if someone liked it or found it useful 😉
