Baby A was born two weeks before E’s birthday. Honestly, if I’d planned it better, I wouldn’t have timed my pregnancy so that two of my kids share a birthday month because that just signs me up for a lifetime of craziness but, like I mentioned in my previous post, I didn’t realize I’d get pregnant so quickly. The moment J & I decided baby #3 would be something we’d try for was the moment we got pregnant. Yikes.
In any case, Baby A and E have birthdays that are two weeks apart and so last year, E really got the short end of the stick in terms of birthday celebrations. I was two weeks postpartum, recovering from a pretty serious postpartum injury (all details coming in a later post) and just had no energy for Happy Anything.
This year, to celebrate her turning seven years old, I wanted to throw E a small birthday party to help make up for the lack of fanfare last year. I told her she could pick a few friends and that I’d take them all to get mani & pedi’s at a pretty spa downtown.
If you have a daughter and have never thrown a mani pedi “spa” party, let me tell you – you are MISSING OUT. It was by far, the easiest party that I have ever thrown in my entire life. ENTIRE LIFE! I literally showed up, sat and doodled on my phone, and paid at the end. Done.
I kept texting my husband throughout that I should have brought a book to read or something! After the girls were done getting their nail services, we walked across the street to a pizza place where we ate dinner before the parents came to pick up their daughters.
E told me she wanted a mermaid birthday cake to match her mermaid water bottle so I found a local baker who does custom cakes and had one created just for her. The cake was so beautiful! I wish I could say it tasted even better but in all honesty, I think it just tasted average. But it sure was a masterpiece for the eyes!
The party didn’t fall on E’s actual birthday (which was a school day) so on the actual day of her birthday, J & I woke up at the butt crack of dawn so that we could wake her up and surprise her with balloons. E is the early riser of our family but she knows now to just play quietly in her room with the door closed until she hears her zombie parents start to stir (LOL). We wanted to be sure that we really surprised her so that meant the hubby and I both had to wake up way before we normally would. It was totally worth it, though! She had the sweetest smile on her face when we walked in.
She also requested 7 pancakes for breakfast so I whipped that up for her and then sent her off to school for the day in her new outfit that matches her WellieWishers Ashlyn doll.
I look back at my first posts on this blog and marvel at how big she is now and how much she has blossomed and grown. When I first started this blog, I had no idea what the next few years would look like, if I’d ever be able to have a conversation with her, if she’d be in a regular school, etc. In a lot of ways, I still don’t know what the future holds for her (which is scary) but there are also so many milestones we’ve hit that seemed unreachable just a few years ago. God has been so faithful in her life, it’s hard to feel anxious about what’s to come when we look back at our journey so far and see how He’s led us and provided for us. I’m excited to see what the next year holds for our sweet girl!
