It’s the first Friday Favorites of 2021! Here we go!
D received this set of Star Wars themed Legos from his grandparents for Christmas and even though it said on the box for ages 8+ (and he’s barely 7 yet), he built basically the entire thing by himself! He spent all day on it for two days in a row and finally finished it … I was so proud of his dedication to completing it. And he’s so proud of HIMSELF too!
Hubby and I came home after visiting his parents and were both IN A MOOD to purge/clean *all the things*. Hubby has been tackling the garage and I’ve been purging clothes from the kids’ closets and old toys that don’t have a spot anymore now that there are shiny new things from Christmas. It always makes me feel so good to reorganize my home. A place for everything and everything in its place is my favorite motto 😉
My podcast bestie and I are re-reading the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas for our January podcast and book club and it has been SO fun to dive back into this series.
Unfortunately (or not lol), I also mistakenly started watching Bridgerton this week and man … I’m only one episode in but it’s already a favorite! My mother in law told me about this show (I’d heard about it before but never really gave it thought) but HER take on it was how un-fun it was and she really didn’t like it. Ironically, that piqued my interest because I knew so many of my friends were gushing about it so I decided to try. And sorry omoni (she’s not reading this but let’s pretend she is HAH), but you’re wrong. This show is so good I’m a little nervous I won’t get all the reading done that I want to finish.
School started back up on Tuesday but this little nugget has been home with me all week because her preschool has a policy where if you have been traveling outside the Bay Area or seeing people who are not from the Bay Area you can’t come to school until a 10-day quarantine period has passed. I was a little frustrated by the policy because it was a brand new policy that they totally sprung on us mid-December and we already had plans to see Hubby’s family for New Years that we didn’t want to cancel. I was annoyed that after coming home, my big kids would get to go back to their school pod but A would need to stay home EVEN THOUGH WE ARE PAYING TUITION FOR THE WHOLE MONTH. But you know what, in the end all the extra time with her this week has actually been really sweet. She’s my little buddy.
The picture below is a screenshot from TikTok/IG (if you’re not following me btw … you should follow me! @sophiaksays for both) but I got “The Comfy” from Hubby for Christmas. I had no idea what this was and when I opened it on Christmas was immediately disappointed because I thought it was a gag gift but he was so genuine giving it to me, saying that he really thought I’d like it because I’m always so cold. Guys, I stand corrected; this thing is FRIGGIN amazing. I never had a Snuggie but I can already assure you this is 10000x better than the Snuggie. How do I know how they compare if I’ve never had the Snuggie? The Comfy is just THAT AWESOME. You need it.
Per my New Year goal of reading through the whole Bible this year, I’ve been doing well this week in following my reading plan from The Bible Recap. You guys, it’s SUCH a manageable reading plan. The readings take literally 10-15 minutes and so far this week the majority of the podcasts to listen to are 5 minutes. Easy peasy. I’m a little in disbelief that at this pace I can actually finish the entire Bible in one year.
Another favorite this week was seeing D get HIS PURPLE BELT AT TAEKWONDO! This kid is growing and reaching new milestone every week in all areas of life and it just blows me away that I get to be his mama. In honor of his getting his purple belt, he & I started looking through old pictures to find one from when he FIRST started Taekwondo at age 4 and look how little he was!!! #babiesdontkeep
Lastly, I started diving back into the world of bujo (bullet journal) and am loving the theme I chose for January (inspired by @Rylee Autumn on YouTube). I tried bujo-ing a few years ago but was overwhelmed by all the creativity in the space and also found that I ultimately couldn’t use my bujo as a planner like most people do because I had 4 people (sometimes 5 if you throw Hubby in there) whose schedules I had to juggle; I needed something more functional and practical than doodley and cute. But this year, I’m using my bujo as more of a journal/scrapbook type thing versus a planner for my family so there’s a lot less pressure and it’s a lot more fun to use.
If you guys have any favorites from your week, I’d love to hear about them! Drop a comment and let me know!

Great job on the Lego set! And congrats on the purple belt! My sister got her black belt in taekwondo several years ago so I know what a big accomplishment it all is! I really need to check out that Bible plan! I really struggle with most of the old testament. I typically try to just read several paragraphs or a chapter from the old testament then a chapter of the new testament but having an actual plan would be helpful!

I am watching Bridgerton too and loving it! I only read the first book in The Court of Thorns and Roses series but loved it. My daughter has read the entire series and enjoyed it. You’re bullet journal makes me want to get back into it. It’s been a number of years since I’ve used one. Hope you had a great weekend!

Oh my, Nancy – you NEED to read book 2 of A Court of Thorns & Roses! Book 1 barely scratches the surface of the true storyline! And yes, try jumping back into bullet journaling – it’s super therapeutic!
