Hi guys! I waffled back and forth a bit on whether I should make this post or not but in the end, my love of all things Christmas won out. Today I’m going to be taking you on a little tour of my Christmas decorations! I don’t know about you, but I love being a little voyeuristic and taking a peek into other people’s homes so if you’re anything like me, I think you’ll enjoy this post.
The first thing you’ll see when you pull up to my house, whether day or night, is this faux garland that I have hung up on our front fence. This fence is new this year and I knew when we were building it that it would be perfect for hanging prelit garland during the holidays… and I WAS RIGHT 🤩 I know garland isn’t everyone’s thing but I LOVE IT.
And here it is lit up at night! You can see we also have some garland hung on front porch posts and the standard icicle lights along our roofline/house trim.
Here’s our front porch bistro set, featuring this cute flocked Christmas tree & truck from Target! The pom pom garlands are also from Target but super old (here is a similar one). Ever since expanding our front patio and adding the fence, we are actually out here more than we are our backyard. The dogs like to romp around here and J & I usually take quick coffee breaks here together while the kids are at school.
I have some pillows on our front porch bench to welcome visitors, too … again, the red Santa sleigh one is super old but the Believe one is current from Target!
And then right at our front door, I have a mini flocked Christmas tree (faux and OLD) that I added a red metal tree collar to for a pop of color, and a faux greenery wreath. The wreath is from Balsam Hill and super old so I don’t think they have this exact one anymore but if you’re in the market for realistic looking faux garlands and wreaths, I highly recommend checking out Balsam Hill! I also got this super cute Santa postcard doormat from Anthropologie this year!
On the inside of the house … woooo chaaald, get ready because I feel like there’s a lot to share 😂
To start, right when you walk in, you’ll see that I have this advent calendar that I talked about in my holiday traditions post. It has all the Jesse tree ornaments that we read about every night.
If you walk in a little further, you’ll be in our living room where I have our Christmas throw pillows and blanket out.
My mom made the Christmas blanket for us a few years ago and the pillows are all super old from Target (Hearth & Hand at Target has my favorite indoor Christmas decor, though! They come out with new stuff every year and each year is prettier than the last IMO).
And just off to the left of that is our fireplace and mantle which is my PRIDE AND JOY of indoor Christmas decor. Seriously, nothing makes me happier than to see this fireplace roaring with all our stockings lined up at the top.
And on the opposite side of the wall to the fireplace is our little buffet console with random Christmas decor lined up on top. I just love twinkle lights (OBSESSED) so anywhere I have an excuse to stuff a string of them, I’ll do it 😂 Yes, we go through a ton of batteries every November/December.
Elsewhere in the living room, I also have this cute Christmas candle that is supposedly limited edition but I buy it EVERY YEAR from Rifle Paper Co so … how limited is it really 🤔 LOL. This candle smells the BEST though; I’ve literally had friends walk into my house and exclaim that it smells like Christmas. BECAUSE IT DOES. This candle smells like Christmas!
I have a few of my kids’ old Christmas crafts from yonder years scattered around as random holiday decor in my living room. I know the “trend” right now is to have a picture perfect, all white and clean Christmas vibe, but I like my home to look cozy and lived in during the holidays. I think personal touches like kids’ crafts (even if the colors don’t match the rest of my decor) are what makes a house feel like home.
And this picture from 2017 of my kiddos (aged 8 months, ALMOST 4 years old, and 6 years old) in their Christmas jammies is actually displayed year round but it feels all the more festive during the holidays. That year (2017) I was THIIIIIS close to making this picture our Christmas card photo but in the end went with something else. I love this picture so much though because it captures each of their personalities so well 🤩
I also have this SUPER random Countdown to Christmas hung up on the wall by our garage door. This thing is so kitschy but it’s from our favorite Christmas tree farm and I bought it when E was only 6 months old back in 2011 so I have a sentimental attachment to it.
And then if you walk past the living room and into the dining room where we have our piano, you’ll see our card wall (with my new rain light card holder – sold out from PB) and our bottle brush tree collection. I honestly can’t link to all the trees; they were collected over several years from tons of different places. I’d say that if you’re looking for some, though, Target & Hobby Lobby are good places to start!
And then if you leave the common living areas and walk through our kids’ bedrooms, you’ll see that they each have their own little pompom trees in their rooms. I don’t keep a lot of Christmas decor in their bedrooms because we have an entire playroom that’s decorated for them.
Speaking of the playroom, this is where all the Christmas stuff just starts to get cartoony and crazy and I love it and don’t care what you think 😂
First up – our tree, which the kids proudly decorate by themselves now. You can see Finley & Ginger in the tree … they’ve been there for a few days and it’s probably time that they move now lol.
We usually have to rearrange some furniture in this playroom because there isn’t normally a tree in here the rest of the year. In the spot where the tree is, our playroom table usually goes so when the tree is up, we move the playroom table against the patio sliding glass doors. We don’t really need backyard access from this room so it’s okay. I have banners hung above these doors and another window in this playroom and you can also see that I have all our Christmas books on the table too. The table looks crazy … because it actually gets used. Like, ALL THE TIME. My kids are always doing something artsy here.
Another view of the tree and our playroom table.
On top of our media console, I have our Fisher Price nativity set and this new North Pole Radio thing from Target. The kids love to tinker and play with both of these.
And then in another area of our playroom, on top of the kids’ books, I have my favorite light-up holiday village from Anthropologie and our candy advent calendar.
Right next to these, I also have this FREAKING COOL Christmas light switch controller from Target. It lights up and plays festive music every time you pull the lever and my kids fight over whose turn it is to crank it every night 😂
I also have random Christmas throw pillows on all the couches in this room …
And then the back corner of this room is actually my office and I have a few glittery Christmas trees scattered. I don’t have much room to decorate here (or maybe I just haven’t gotten creative enough to figure out what I want to do here yet) so this is all my desk gets. Do you spot the three trees?
The last little piece of Christmas decor that I pull out every year is this bathmat that goes in our hall bathroom. It was an impulse purchase 3-4 years ago but I love it and I love unboxing it from storage every November bwahaha.
And that’s it! I don’t have any decor in our master bedroom because I’m literally only ever in there to sleep. The common areas of our house where we spend the most time have the most decor because … duh.
I shared a TikTok recently that showed a mom (grandma?) in her … 50s? 60s? who literally had an entire wall’s worth of stacked Christmas decor boxes that her husband pulls out of storage every year. We’ve only lived in this house for 5 years so .. one day. One day, I will be that grandma 😂 Right now we have no decor in our backyard so that might be something I do someday, too. Who knows!
