I asked on my IG whether or not Day In The Life posts are something people are interested in and the answer was a resounding YES 👀 (although I guess … people who aren’t interested in these things might have just skipped the poll altogether instead of hitting “no” but anyway…)
I decided to try and do a SUPER DETAILED Day In The Life post but I’m going to be honest and let you know the day started off strong and then once my kids started coming home, it got hectic and I didn’t take very many pictures so … sorry.
My day started right around 5am. I’ve been struggling to get up any earlier than 5am because of the time switch with daylight savings so I’ve been taking it “easy” this week and letting myself start at 5am instead of 430am. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been rough LOL. Also, what the heck – my phone was plugged in to the charger all night but it looks like it didn’t charge?! I expect to have a full battery when I wake up in the mornings!
Anyway, the first thing I do every morning is turn off the alarm and head to my bathroom. I sit in the bathroom and blearily scroll through my phone while my eyes and brain try to wake up. I’ve found this is the best way to get myself out of bed – to actually get OUT of bed first and then wait for the “wake up” feeling to hit.
After washing up and getting on my workout clothes (and Comfy), the next thing I do is head to the kitchen to get some coffee. I don’t think I necessarily need it to “wake up” this early in the AM but I like the ritual.
Once coffee is made, I start with my daily Bible reading. I’m still doing The Bible Recap reading plan and listening to the accompanying podcast every day and I’m loving it! We’re halfway through Deuteronomy right now!
After Bible reading, the way I spend the rest of my quiet early AM time varies. I usually try to get a headstart on a little bit of work (blog … emails … PPG, etc) but by 6:15-ish I wrap up anything that I may have started and begin my workout. I usually do a Bar Method workout but lately I’ve been mixing it up with a strength workout from the Kira Stokes app here and there. I used to see a personal trainer once a week to help with strength but she moved away last month so the app is my replacement hahah. Today was a Bar Method workout, though!
After my workout is done, I take Kylo out for his morning business and then wake up the two big kids so they can get dressed to go to their pod. School is still in a hybrid format (with the majority of their school day still on Zoom TBH) but I’ve had them registered in a pod since the beginning of the school year so they still get to pack their backpacks and go somewhere every morning. While they get ready, I make breakfast for them, pack lunches, pack backpacks… then J drops them off. A will wake up sometime during all this morning hullabaloo but she doesn’t start preschool until later in the morning so she’s able to take more time waking up & eating. Once she’s ready, though, J also drops her off at school.
On this particular day, right after the kids left, I went to go walk our local reservoir with a friend. Kylo LOOOOVES his reservoir walks, look how he excited he is PRE-walk once we pulled into the reservoir parking lot.
Mid-walk
Post walk … we walked over 5 miles, you’d think he’d be tired. NO.
As soon as I got home from the reservoir, I had a phone call with a “big sis” mentor at my church who has been walking with me through some pretty difficult emotional abuse/relationship dynamics I’m navigating through. We’ve been reading and discussing When People are Big and God is Small together and it has been SO good. The perspective switch of fearing God over man is so basic but life-changing. We ended up talking/discussing for MORE than two hours and I was starving so I snacked on some dip/almond flour crackers while we chatted, too.
Then it was a mad dash off to A’s preschool to pick her up. I typically try to take my time getting to her school; I’ll sit in my car in the parking lot a bit, just go slowly you know? But because I was so engrossed in my conversation, I pushed her pick up to the last minute and was rushing to get to her. Thankfully, I made it there on time!
She came home and it was her naptime so she went down to nap and I ate some real lunch (instead of just crackers LOL) …
Folded a little bit of laundry…
Then it was time to go pick up the big kids from school. This was a day for them to be on-campus in the afternoon so I got to get them from actual school instead of the pod!
After I got home with the big kids, I emptied their backpacks and did the dishes (again. I feel like laundry & dishes are two things that I’m doing non stop all day, every day). I was super proud of D because today was the FIRST day EVER that he’s taken a sandwich in his lunchbox. I have packed him Korean food every single day since he was 2 years old and in preschool. When he was a toddler it was because he wouldn’t even eat lunch if I didn’t pack him something Korean and after a few years it just became a habit. But on this day, I ran out of everything Korean that would have been convenient to pack so I convinced him to try an almond butter & jam sandwich and guess what? He said it was SO GOOD! Woohoo!
The big kids did homework … played … practiced piano .. just did their normal after school things while I did some more work for PPG. My work looks different every day but in today’s case, I needed to shoot some content for the PPG IG.
Then it was back into the car for D’s taekwondo lesson! He’s up to an advanced purple belt (for juniors) and I’m so proud of him! 🥺
After we got home, it was past 5pm so I scrambled to put dinner together. It was Taco Tuesday and I’d already put the chicken into the Instant Pot before TKD so all I had to do was assemble the quesadillas, etc but it was still pretty rushed.
We ate dinner, checked the mail … and I got a package from CJLA! I’ve been doing SO well with my low-buy challenge BUUUUT I will admit that in the last two weeks, I’ve purchased 3-4 items. Prior to this, I’d only made one purchase out of my “Buy 5” Low Buy Challenge so technically I haven’t failed the challenge but it was a little alarming how fast I met the 5-item limit after not buying anything for the majority of the quarter. I think the warmer weather has made shopping feel a little more fun.
After dinner is always a BLUR guys. I don’t really know what I did for the rest of the evening. I know that I did the dishes (again) and finished folding the rest of the laundry ….
Post-dinner time is really relaxed in our home. I try to get the kids to finish all their chores and “things” before dinner so that they can watch some TV or play after if they want to.
And then on school nights it’s an early bedtime for everyone! A few nights ago, A PEED on her bed SO bad that we had to strip even the mattress and wash everything/let it air dry. She’d been sleeping on the Nugget couch in her room but tonight we finally got to put all the sheets back on her actual bed and A was so happy to help daddy make her bed again.
And then pretty soon after the kids were tucked in, I went to bed too …. If I don’t sleep early, I can’t get up early! I look SO WEIRD here but oh well. Don’t mind me.
There’s my day in the life! It was a pretty busy day but I feel like most of my days, whether they look like this or not, are busy. You’d think that as a SAHM with all her kids in school, I’d be sitting around watching K dramas or reading YA books all day but the truth is, I barely even get time to browse TikTok or something equally mindless.
Also! You may have noticed that J isn’t featured too much on my Day in the Life post. That’s because he really goes “to work” during work hours. He helps in the morning and drops off all the kids at their respective locations but after that, he’s working. Even though he’s right there in the garage, we try to respect the fact that he’s still “in the office” and not interrupt him. That’s not to say that he doesn’t come in and take a break here and there to say hi or give hugs to the kids when they get home but for the most part, I run the ship alone during the day 🙂 I do get to eat lunch alone with J most days tho! This day I didn’t because I was on that call with my mentor for so long but you know … that’s more the exception than the rule.
Okay, that’s it!
