I don’t get quiet moments with just my son that often. There’s always at least a sister (or two) thrown into the chaos so whenever I find myself in a time when it’s just him and me, I try and maximize it by being intentional.
On this particular day, that meant that when baby sister was napping and big sister was still at school, I could sit with D and chat with him while he ate his lunch. I asked him about preschool, who his best buds were, what he liked learning …
Then, as most conversations with 5-year-olds do, the topic started veering into random tangents and one point he said to me –
“Mom, did you know God made me? And He made me just for you, to be with you as my mommy.”
0.0 I responded and said, yea He did make you and I’m so glad He made you. To which D then said,
“I’m so glad God made me to be with you as my mommy, you’re the mommy I like best.”
0.0 Insert all the feels! I started getting emotional, thinking about all the fears I went through during my pregnancy with this little guy, how we missed out on all these sweet preschool conversations with his big sister, and how thankful I am that God blessed us with him … when all of a sudden he continued with –
“Yea, but except when you get ANGRY with me. When you get angry with me, then that’s when you need to FIX YOUR HEART!”
LOL!!! “Fix your heart” is the term we use to talk about sin with our kids. We talk a lot about how everyone has broken hearts because of sin and everyone has hearts that are in need of “fixing” but there’s only One who can fix it for us. So basically, my 5-year old was rebuking me over lunch that there are times he can see my sin peek through and I need to repent.
Well spoken, son. Point taken.
