Wow guys, we had the biggest weekend filled with ✨all the things✨ and I can’t wait to recap it all for you! We kicked off our 4th of July long weekend with a trip to the MOVIE THEATER to watch Boss Baby 2! My kids have been a big fan of the first Boss Baby for a long time … and I don’t think I was even aware that there was a sequel in the works? Anyway, with movie theaters recently reopened, we decided to take them for a treat and go watch the movie in theater with friends. We haven’t been back to a movie theater in over a year – since pre COVID! We went with my podcast cohost and her family and let all the kids sit together. They did great! I will say, I was a little skeevish because I was sitting next to a complete stranger and we were both unmasked/eating popcorn but I told myself to get over it. The movie was super cute! Highly, highly recommend 🙂
They even got to play in the arcade a bit after the movie! This arcade was old and tiny so we didn’t stay long but my son did ask if we could go to Chuck E Cheese or a similar kids’ arcade sometime soon so … that might be next up in our summer bucket list.
Saturday, we had a big pool party/BBQ at our house and we invited all our friends who were free to come and par-taaayyyy. It was a long, fun day filled with swimming, basketball, video games, and a movie to end the night. TONS of eating and snacking all day long too. I must have only snapped pictures early on Saturday because I don’t think this accurately reflects the number of kids and adults we had at our house. The boys stayed outside for almost the entire time but the girls were playing dress up/arts & crafts inside for hours and I have no pictures of that.
😂 Funny story: J kept saying it would be convenient to have a TV outside in our backyard, especially when we have kids/guests over because inevitably they will want to play video games and wet kids inside our house isn’t the most fun to clean up after. We kept saying yea, that’s a good idea, yea that’s a good idea but never doing anything about it … and then literally Saturday morning, J disappeared to Costco and came back with a TV LOL. I will hand it to him, though – it was a fun way to keep kids occupied outside when they were tired from swimming. And … as you see, the dads really enjoyed being able to watch the game outside too -_______-
Saturday we partied till about 10pm (maybe a little earlier? 930?) and then the last of our friends went home and we all went to bed. We got up and had a slow Sunday morning before heading to church for service. I posted the recent dresses from my Madewell haul on IG and tons of people said they liked the polka dot dress and this gingham dress. I decided to wear the gingham to church since it was 4th of July and the picnic-vibes felt appropriate for the holiday 😉
After church, we ran into some friends and went to get lunch together and then we came home and ALL knocked out for an EPIC nap. Like, I’m talking 3 hour nap.
It was imperative we got a lot of rest becaauuuuseee we met up with some friends after dinner and got on a boat for a Bay Area fireworks cruise!!
It was our first time doing this (as well as our friends’) so I wasn’t sure what to expect but it was SO MUCH FUN! It was freezing cold but we came prepared so that wasn’t an issue. You basically get on the boat, bring all the snacks and drinks you want, and just snack while the boat cruises around the bay and you get panoramic views of all the fireworks going on locally. It was super cool!! There was a heavy fog blanket that obstructed some of our views and because of the fog, the fireworks show off the marina (which would have been super close to us) was canceled. I’d imagine that if that fireworks show had gone off as planned, the views from the boat would have been even MORE epic.
Still, it was so pretty!! And thanks to the epic naps that were had, nobody was cranky/everyone was able to hang until the cruise ended.
It was honestly an EPIC time and I can’t wait to do it again. The only sort of downside is that we didn’t get home until close to midnight and by the time all the kids were washed up/tucked in, it was definitely past midnight 💀 So needless to say, Monday was a SLOOWWWW start. A slept until 10 am which NEVER happens… E and I woke up the earliest around 830am, but we both doodled in our rooms and were just texting each other. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, texting with your kid is weird and cool.
We spent the rest of the day just playing at home and watching movies; basically, recovering from our 4th of July festivities. As I’m writing this post, we’re rewatching Boss Baby 2 (turns out, we already have the movie due to our cable subscription plan) and snuggling on the couch. It’s been a great day of recovery after a fun-filled weekend and I’m kind of looking forward to yet kind of dreading today. I love returning to my routine but I have a feeling the return to reality is going to be a harsh slap in the face 😂 Pray for ya girl.
How was your guys’ 4th of July holiday!? Let me know if you had any fun plans!
